Plot Summary

Welcome to the captivating world of urban exploration, an international subculture of fearless thrill-seekers who lurk beneath city streets and trespass into long-abandoned buildings, defiantly searching for unseen treasures of modern civilization. Documentary filmmaker Melody Gilbert follows Max Action, Slim Jim, Katwoman, Mr. X, BHV-Fred and Turobzutek as they infiltrate aging lunatic asylums, abandoned government sites, faded tourist attractions, sewers, drains, and even the forbidden Catacombs in Paris. Many explore armed with only a camera, often snapping astonishingly beautiful photos. "Fascinating, particularly at a comfortable armchair's distance." -Variety

Magical Mystery Tour of the Urban Underworld. Not to be Missed!

I saw this film a few years ago on the festival circuit and am thrilled to see it now on ITunes. From the safety of your armchair (or portable digital device!) you can now enter rare and glittering Lost Worlds, magical caverns, spooky creepy-crawly tunnels and dark midnight rivers - all almost unimaginable from the urban world above and often right below your feet. You’ll never regard the underworld in quite the same way again! Also unforgettable are the regular Joes and Janes, right out of a punk comic book or an Indiana Jones novel, who transform nightly into thrill-seeking spelunkers, amateur archeologists and makers of surprising, stunning underworld photographs. Great doc.

FASCINATING FILM YET NEEDS BETTER EDITING

With the disappearance of landscape in urban areas, the spelunker instinct explores urban underground caves, sewer systems, and abandoned buildings. Fabulous still photography by the urban explorers makes this documentary visually stunning. The film needs to be more tightly edited, as parts are slow or unnecessary. Yet, comedic and adventurous elements combine well to make this documentary about human curiosity of discovering what is hidden right under our feet worth watching.

Urban Explorers: Into the Darkness

This documentary definitely takes you places you would never normally go! A must watch for people who are curious. Fabulous photography and great characters. It might change the way you see the world.
