Plot Summary
From Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Usual Suspects, this wickedly off-beat mix of crime, comedy and gunplay stars Ryan Phillippe and Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro. Convinced they'll score big money fast by kidnapping a young surrogate mother (Juliette Lewis) carrying the child of a wealthy Southwestern couple, the two small caliber crooks soon run into major problems. Realizing too late that they're in over their heads, the kidnappers fight to keep their plan from unraveling amid rising time of bloodshed, mind games and greed.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Stylish and intelligent.
Fresh: McQuarrie has a gift for curveball casting.
Rotten: In a way, [McQuarrie] almost seems motivated by the same things that drive his killers: desperation and loot.
Rotten: Where The Way of the Gun falters seriously is its too-leisurely pacing.
Customer Reviews
not The Usual Suspects.
I'm not surprised to not see raves about this film, but an all out slam of it is surprising. I own and love this one. The writing is superb, but not what you'd expect coming from the mind behind The Usual Suspects (McQuarrie). There are a lot of things to dismiss here for the action blockbuster crowd. It's more like the art-house gangster mix of Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead. This is subtle in other words, but worth it. It's character driven and extremely well acted (even Ryan holds his own with Del Toro and James Caan). Although it doesn't have the mainstream appeal of Pulp Fiction it is easily as genre challenging, without the absurdism added to its violence and without the pretense added to some of its dialogue. If you liked The Usual Suspects, but wanted less sensationalism and more realism you will enjoy Way Of The Gun. If you see guns in actor's hands and want a "Die Hard" kind of experience, well, you'll probably hate this movie.
A good film!
One of my favorite movies of all time. If you like Kill Bill, Heat, Westerns, Last Man Standing, etc. You will love this movie also.
A Good Movie for Some
The gunplay in this movie is very nice. Those appreciative of gunfighting will enjoy the last gunfight. The story is something else, but the movie does a nice job with the firearms. Watch the one-handed reload during the last gunfight...nice. Overall I enjoyed this movie and still find it entertaining.
