Ahead of the Curve

Cunningham and James' video clip for Come To Daddy may not have had the airplay that most music videos get, but anyone who posseses anything more than a layman's appreciation for the modern music world will tell you that this is arguably one of the best videos ever made. Exuding a unique brand of creepiness that has yet to be matched in mainstream cinema, there is a message buried in here somewhere, but it's moot; youth uprising, narcissism, the urban sprawl - these themes could bear weight, but to analyze the content would be a tail-chasing affair. Just hit download, sit back, dim the lights, and enjoy the sheer terror.

"Come to Daddy, Pappy mix" — often simply called "Come to Daddy"

The video was directed by acclaimed director Chris Cunningham and filmed on the same council estate where Stanley Kubrick shot many scenes in A Clockwork Orange. It opens with an old lady walking her dog. She comes across an old television, on which her dog urinates. This awakens a monster in the television, who commands children (who all bear the face of Richard D. James) to do his bidding, such as trashing an alley and chasing a man into his car. At one point, the monster (played by Al Stokes) comes out of the television and screams in the old lady's face. After this, he gathers the children around him in a manner reminiscent of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. "Come to Daddy is also heard twice in the film 8mm starring Nicolas Cage, and the music video can be seen in part on a television screen in Dino Velvet's office. Also is heard in the movie CKY2K.

AMAZING

It's stupid how people rate this one star because they say it was creepy. Shut up. This is just amazing. For those who rated this low because it was "scary"... shut up.

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Exploring the experimental possibilities inherent in acid and ambience, the two major influences on home-listening techno during the late '80s, Richard D. James' recordings as Aphex Twin brought him more critical praise than any other electronic artist during the 1990s. Though his first major single, "Didgeridoo," was a piece of acid thrash designed to tire dancers during his DJ sets, ambient stylists and critics later took him under their wing for Selected Ambient Works 85-92, a sublime touchstone...
