A Very Special Song
This is the third single off of Lupe Fiasco's album, Lupe Fiasco's The Cool. The entire album is wonderful, and I'm very happy for Lupe that his first single, Superstar, finally garnered him some well deserved mainstream attention. This song, is even better. It features a great chorus from one of Lupe's artists he signed to his label, 1st and 15th, Nikki Jean. The song is about how people scrutinize hip-hop so much that, while there still may be some problems with it it is causing some good in the world. It states how some of the artists would be in trouble were it not for hip-hop, and how more importantly, a lot of people would not have an area to escape their daily problems were it not for hip-hop. The video also adequately tells the storyline and should be a definite purchase. But defintely make sure you take away the beautiful and very true message the Lupe Fiasco has presented in this masterpiece.
Lupe Fiasco-Hip Hop Saved My Life Video
Lupe's third single from his Lupe Fiasco's The Cool album, this track is definitely one of the best on the album. Lupe is an incredibly gifted writer and his ability to storytell is simply proven here. With a bass heavy beat from Soundtrakk and light keys, it is the perfect background for Lupe to spit his story of an aspiring rapper. A struggling rapper out of the H-Town, it explains of how he gets writer's block, but eventually gets a hit record in it. "Stack That Cheese" was the hit, but it got taken down due to not paying producer dues. He later hits the big time and gets motivated to writing again, before sadly going back to dealing crack. Lupe spits "bail his homie out of jail, put a lawyer on his case, throw a concert for the school, show the soldiers that its cool, throw some D's on the caddy, chunk the deuce and act a fool, man it feels good when it happens like that, 2 days from goin back to sellin crack". Nikki Jean's light chorus works, as the video simply shows Lupe as the narrator and a young rapper with braids, basically the story. Good video and a fitting one for Lupe.
Great Video
Hip-Hop Saved My Life is easily one of the best songs on Lupe Fiasco's album The Cool (you need to get that if you dont have it already). This video gives you the visual to the inspiring story of a Houston rapper who is trying to make it into the music industry. The song/video features the beautiful and talented Nikki Jean, who blesses the chorus with her smooth (almost soothing) vocals. The video includes cameos from Houston based rappers Bun B, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, and Willie D. As a fan of Lupe I enjoyed this video. If you appreciate quality music with a great story behind it, I'm sure you will enjoy this video also. 5 Stars!
