The Queen of Piano-Pop
Bareilles' newest single "King Of Anything" is a magical song. While only time will tell if it has the longevity of "Love Song," it'll certainly hold its weight until her newest album drops in September. In the meantime, Sara's 5th voyage into music video land is a true delight. While not as simplistic or emotional as Bareilles' beautiful "Gravity" video, "KoA" ups the artistic auntie with a polaroid-heavy collage of hand claps, piano keys, tubas, and the gorgeous face of Bareilles herself.
In the video, a black-and-white Sara tells a faceless man that he's not the king of anything. Once the 2nd verse hits though, we're splashed with colorful vignettes of Sara singing in busses, record shops, and gardens, and though she's all by herself, we feel a part of it, almost invited (though hopeful that she's not singing to me. Let's face it, I'd love Sara to sing to me - but not to tell me off about being a pushy little know-it-all), yet at the same time seeing something almost hidden or personal. The separate frames and film slides add a nice touch to the intimate-yet-open feel.
If the song itself isn't addictive enough, the video is an 'insert anytime pick-me-up' for sure. Sara is as gorgeous as ever, and you can really tell she had a lot of fun shooting the video. Best of all, like Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am" video, Bareilles' "King of Anything" is a direct look into her cutesy artistic and slightly quirky self. Now if we could only have the album now. Here's hoping "Uncharted" is quick to be released, and we receive another snappy tour-de-force video. Though I'm not trying to be pushy telling her what to do. No one died, and I'm not the King of anything.

Sara, Sara, Sara....you've done it again!!!! We first met you at your first single, 'Love Song', when your journey had just begun. Boy, oh Boy we have gone a long way! You are gorgeous, inspiring, and amazingly talented...Any Sara fans, OR non-sara fans should buy this! the infectious rythem and fun intro make for a beautiful combination.
