Wait a minute....

There wouldn't be a Guns version if there wasn't a Bob version. He wrote the thing. It's his genius, his lyrics, his brilliant songwriting that's responsible for this song. Axl & Co. were lucky to have the opportunity to cover it. Same goes for Jimi Hendrix and All Along the Watchtower. And the Byrds and Mr. Tambourine Man. Bob is an icon, a poet, and a creative genius. He is the greatest songwriter of our time and this song is just one example of that. Whether it's mortality, love, sex, politics, racism, making up, or breaking up, Bob can write about any topic and have it still remain as relevant thirty some years later (as is the case with Knockin') as it was when it appeared in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid all those years ago. Many have tried to imitate him but no one has come close to the real thing. If you don't know this already, a few bad covers and you'll figure it out: nobody sings Bob quite like Bob.

Bob Dylan's influence on popular music is incalculable. As a songwriter, he pioneered several different schools of pop songwriting, from confessional singer/songwriter to winding, hallucinatory, stream-of-consciousness narratives. As a vocalist, he broke down the notion that a singer must have a conventionally good voice in order to perform, thereby redefining the vocalist's role in popular music. As a musician, he sparked several genres of pop music, including electrified folk-rock and country-rock....
