Incredible Vid

If you are any kind of music fan, the hairs on the back of your neck should stand up, and goosebumps should riddle your arms. Great video, even better song!

Great

This is one awesome vid, the S&M album should be owned by anyone who appreciates innovation and experimentation in their music.

Pretty good, but I wish they'd done a video for the live "Enter Sandman"!

Was just mentioning to a friend earlier this week that if you take a band I really like and add a full orchestra and/or chorus/choir, I'll love it even more -- I really enjoy the juxtaposition of a metal band with a formal orchestra. (Wonder what the orchestra members are thinking? Do they think this is cool or just weird? I think it's cool!) If you like orchestral backups, also try KISS Alive IV (with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) and Meat Loaf Bat Out Of Hell Live (also with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra). No vids for either but the songs are pretty awesome. Also think about Manowar -- many of their studio songs have orchestra/choir backup and sound really epic. Off of this Metallica album I also recommend the songs "Enter Sandman", "For Whom The Bell Tolls", and "Wherever I May Roam". Too bad no vids for those. One downside to the band/orchestra combo -- the stage is a little small to hold the whole orchestra and the band, so the band's movements are somewhat constrained by space issues. It results in some dampening of the perceived energy level of the band compared to their standard live videos. Thus the 4 stars and not 5!

Formed: 1981 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Metallica was easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s. Responsible for bringing the genre back to Earth, the bandmates looked and talked like they were from the street, shunning the usual rockstar games of metal musicians during the early '80s. Metallica also expanded the limits of thrash, using speed and volume not for their own sake, but to enhance their intricately structured compositions. The release of 1983's Kill 'Em All marked the beginning of the legitimization of heavy...
