Billy was called the Fifth Beatle because he played keyboards on "Let It Be," "The White Album" and "Abbey Road." Billy Preston’s talent and originality can be heard in his out-of this-world song Outa-space. His unique stage presence, humongous Afro, and an omnipresent gap-toothed grin, added to Preston’s popularity. Once Outa-space hit the scene, it went all the way to #2 and was one of the top 40 singles of 1972. Fifteen-year-old-Billy Preston's first experience playing rock n' roll was with Little Richard during a tour of Europe in 1964.

By age ten he was playing keyboards with gospel diva Mahalia Jackson, and two years later, in 1958, he was featured in Hollywood's film bio of W.C. Handy, St. Louis Blues, as young Handy himself.
