Suavecito stayed on the charts for 8 weeks. Malo is one of the most successful and enduring Latin rock bands in the world. In the year, 2002, they celebrated their 30th anniversary. They’ve played all over the world and have performed with the Rolling Stones and Queen. The group was originally formed as the Malibus and changed their name to Malo in 1970. Eventually the band brought in a guitarist by the name of Jorge Santana, the brother of the already famous Carlos Santana.

During the early 70’s latino crossover music rarely received air play in the Midwest. Suavecito is a rare gem that managed its way into the mainstream and continues to shine. It remains a standard in our community and is still played at clubs, parties and by local bands. Malo has a sizzling horn and percussion section! Check out Momotombo, Nena or Pana. The horns will put a hurtin’ on your system! “We knew about “world music” back in the 70’s but never had access to it. Thanks to iTunes and the internet it is now available at your fingertips!

When Latin funk and Latin rock had its brief moment in the sun during the '70s, a number of groups emerged. Most were imitation Santanas, but at least Malo could boast that it had a real Santana in the lineup. Carlos Santana's brother Jorge headed Malo, and he possessed a little of his brother's vocal sound. Unfortunately, he didn't have enough to keep Malo going more than a few years.
