A Note from Ben Gibbard

A Note from Ben via postalservicemusic.net: It has recently come to our attention that Apple Computers' new television commercial for the Intel chip features a shot-for-shot recreation of our video for 'Such Great Heights' made by the same filmmakers responsible for the original. We did not approve this commercialization and are extremely disappointed with both parties that this was executed without our consultation or consent. -Ben Gibbard, The Postal Service

Same director as macintel ad

Just to set the record stright, this video and the new ad for intel imacs were made by the SAME DIRECTOR. So dont anybody be posting how they look similar. Apple did NOT copy the music video. Funny time to post the video though, maybe because everyone is familiar with it by this point from the tv ad.

It's all about the eyes

Social, and sexual, tension is often best expressed in a single glance. Sure, dialogue is a good thing too, but considering it's a music video, the words speak for themselves. The sealed off workers obviously want to connect on a deeper level, but like many in society, they are "at such great heights." Either one is too far away emotionally, or perhaps too removed culturally. We may not all be sealed off, but plenty in life have sufficient baggage that connecting in a new relationship can be difficult. Given the techno feel, the satelite and chip manufacturing setting are appropriate. I have always loved the song, and will enjoy watching the video again and again as time goes on. Sometimes it is best to enjoy sexual reservation via proxy so that we can better deal with our own reservations. Overall, a great vid.
