Gimmicky camera effects and non-meshing atmosphere leave more to be desired

Mundane would be effective to begin describing this video, and it would also justify the relationship between the video and the song. Let me start by saying that from release, "The Night" was officially among my top favorite songs featured on the album Indestructible. I loved the dark vibe and aggressive instrumental, coupled with an altogether poppy chorus. The song is still an absolute monster, and I don't regret loving it. However, this video is probably the opposite of the song. While few, if any, parts of the song felt out of place, this video seems wholly misplaced. It starts out adequately dark and groovy, and I could definitely get somewhat of a feel for it. However, it all went downhill as the song progressed. A way through the video, I began noticing the use of rather gimmicky camera effects. In other words, camera effects that lend nothing to the overall video, and "are there because they can be." While in most cases this wouldn't break a video, the camera effects become a bit too much, being used frequently as the video progresses. As if to add a bit of insult to injury, I noticed a shocker. Throughout the video, many of the same clips were used multiple times. There was a clip of David Draiman, the headman of Disturbed, breathing on glass. This was pretty cool the first time, but when it passed by for the third time, it left me gawking at the stale taste it left in my mouth. I was left in wonder at how a competant music video editor could do this, at how a director could allow it, and at how a band could condone it. To top that, these bad camera effects and multiple repeated shots don't even capture the feel of the song. The song is one of Disturbed's darker hits, and rightfully so. It was hailed as a major breakthrough for them. The video, however, doesn't even come close to matching this. A setting more appropriate for the video would be the set of the "Inside the Fire" music video (the performance set). Even while the band is performing, the style of the scene feels a bit out of place. It is more comparable in color pallette to the "Indestructible" music video, rather than the "Inside the Fire" video. Overall, this is a good song. It's a great album, and I still listen to it probably daily; with this song heading up those listens. However, stay away from this music video. It is plagued with bad directing decisions, as well as terrible editing decisions. It is not worth $2. Go out and buy the album instead.

An Overall good video

A cool video, very dark and interesting but goes perfectly with the song. exactly what you'd expect of disturbed. Great song and nice video to go with it. DISTURBED ROCKS!

Heavy metal band Disturbed came together through the matching of a band with a singer. Longtime friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Fuzz (bass) played together in Chicago for some time before hooking up with singer David Draiman around 1997. Draiman had grown up in a religious family against which he rebelled, being expelled from five boarding schools in his adolescence. His anger found an outlet in the thrashing sound of Disturbed, and the band built up a following on Chicago's...
