UGH

This is really bothering me. I think a lot of Stephenie Meyer's fans are going to blindly flock to Jack's Mannequin simply because she directed the video, and not because JM is so amazing. This is like your favorite indie band hitting it big, or the best underground movie ever suddenly becoming a pop classic. I love JM, and this video was kind of a good idea, but you only ever got a vague inkling of what was actually going on (is the mermaid chasing him or is the sea a metaphor for something else?), and the execution (storyline wise) was just poor. Though, like I said, I adore JM (really, anything that Andrew McMahon is attached to), and I'm speaking strictly in terms of Stephenie Meyer and her "idea."

Next Time, Leave Out Stephenie.

Okay, so we all know Stephenie Meyer is not a video director after we see this music video. It angers me that she took an amazingly meaningful song and made it about a mermaid. Nonetheless, the song alone is fantastic, and it's 3 minutes of looking at Andrew, so I still enjoy this video.

GREAT song, TERRIBLE video.

Andrew McMahon is by far the most talented man that I listen too, but this is a terrible video and it's upsetting he went along with it. It doesn't relate at all to the real meaning behind the song. It's stupid.
