Just no.

Nice concept but more of the same problematic images

I loved hip hop before it became misogynistic. Once upon a time (before Hollywood took over), hip hop was funky, fun, and artists took pride in creating clever, in tune, in time, rhythmic cuts, that would keep the crowd dancing, moving, or thinking. But that was then... Back to this video.

I like the use of the photo to show shots in time. It's rare to see hip hop artists pay tribute to talented artists (which is nice to see), let alone confront current events. However, the tribute doesn't span very far, and there are so many others who could be shown. At least they tried.

The images, are the same, though... the focus on White women, the whoreifcation of Black women, showing Black men as violent (or with the potential to be violent). That was never what hip hop was supposed to be about, or any music made by Black people for that matter. Hip Hop has stopped being our voice for almost 20 years. All it is is the representation that Hollywood producers have decided to sell, and sadly, our youth, and the a lot of America (and other countries) have fallen for it (hook, line, and sinker). But I guess that's a discussion for another arena.

Those who don't know what hip hop was, and believe in what hip hop has become will probably like this video. Those who've only been exposed to what hip hop is now, and never got it, will hate it. Those of us who know what hip hop was, and have witnessed the downward spiral of our music and our youth will be further saddened.

Ew

This is just sad. Why iTunes?why?
