Don't Get Distracted
A group of friends and I were talking about this video and almost everyone was saying how Erykah was wrong for parading around nude on her new video. They were disgusted in her disregard for the kids in the crowd and disappointed in her overall decision in coming up with the idea for a video that had nothing to do with the song. As I was listening to the arguement I heard nothing about what the symbolism of her portrayl of a person who has evolved from an ordinary fully clothed person just like everyone else in the crowed conformed by the same ideas of the group "socially accepted" and ignored as long as you are "like us"; to a nude individual freed from the layers of denial of self expression and purpose, conformed by only the limitedless potential given by God, seen by all and feared and revered so much that she must be killed. When that much power is expressed it cannot be contagious to change many but it must be contained through destruction to stop the threat of the revolution of the mind (ie. Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, Jesus). At that time without even knowing it my friends were demostrating exactly what Erykah was talking against killing the evolution of humanity by the group ideal and not encouraging the strive for the next level. Yes her demonstartion may have been extremely blunt but to make you think sometimes you have to grab the attention away from the things that entrap them with the things that entrap them. I think that this video is the most ingenius so far this year! To bad the "social molders" have issued out the public opinion to the group and no one whats to think about it on there own, because the intellectual discussion from this video is awesome and deep.
Politically charged
Erykah Badu graces once again with her new single and with it comes this reportedly controversial video was shot in Dealey Plaza, Dallas where the late JFK was assassinated. Miss Badu walks the same street and gradually strips naked in front of many. She continues to walk in front of the Texas School Book Depository - where the shots that killed Kennedy were fired from. She gets "shot down", in the nude, not far from the spot where Kennedy was killed. I think it is a very well made video with a rather strong message of the dangers of intolerance and hate. Please note that her naughty bits gets pixelated in the video.
Braveheart!
Actually, I like this video. She doesn't even care about what others say about her. Groupthink. Fearlessness. Braveheart. I admire her.
