All good!

Man, oh, man. This sounds like the Portland, Oregon, music scene was just bottled up and poured out into a great big salad of goodness. You just have to like Feist and Gnarls on the same Essential, right?

Incredible Collection - Must Have!

The minute I saw the title of this mix I knew it would be good. And I was pleasantly surprised to see (in my mind) the definition of Alterna-pop as the first song. But besides the obvious awesomeness of Phoenix, this playlist features a varying selection of up-and-coming artists as well as tried and true favorites, such as Radiohead and The Killers. Highly recommend checking this list out, or at least sampling everything it has to offer; it's a high-energy set sure to be enjoyed.

Great comp for a catch-up on recent Indie, but NOT PORTLAND.

If this is such a Portland-centric comp, where are the Decemberists or Blitzen Trapper or The Dandy Warhols? This comp could have come from ANY college town, U.S.A. (or U.K., for that matter). These same songs would be played on Brooklyn Vegan Radio, Austin City Limits, or any other college-indie format in any town. Why do so many Portland music fans seem to think they invented this stuff? I think I counted three Portland bands on this entire playlist, and only two of them were actually originally from Portland. Dublin, Ireland has as much claim to this playlist as Portland.

That said, this is a great comp if your'e trying to catch up to the past several years of indie. But I agree that it's woefully out-of date in 2011. Either add some new songs to the playlist, or label it Alterna-Pop 2000-2008, and then make a new playlist for the years since. JMHO.
