Amazing

Bauhaus was one of the original "Goth" bands, up there with Joy Division, The Cure, and Gene loves Jezabel. If it was not for them opening the door a lot of these so called "Goth" bands would not have existed. They are not light they have a lot of depth, and that comes from talent. Still and always will be my favorite band. Just because you wear make-up and dress like a vampire, does not make you goth. Marilyn Manson is not goth they are an Metal band that people called goth.

Great artists, poor "essential" selection

How is this an essential of Bauhaus, L&R, and Peter Murphy? There are no Peter Murphy songs on here, and only 2 L&R...a pretty poor "representative sampling." No Peter Murphy? Really?? He has nine solo albums out, and you couldn't list a single song here, iTunes? Really?? Are you even aware of how many of Bauhaus' fans listened to their work just because they were entranced by his voice--and you put *zero* of his solo tracks here? If you're going to do that, take out the two L&R and the Tones on Tail and just call it the Bauhaus compilation that it clearly wants to be.

If I were a new listener that was interested in trying out these artists' music, I would download:

Bauhaus: Stigmata Martyr, Bela Lugosi's Dead, Rosegarden Funeral of Sores, She's in Parties, Double Dare, Too Much 21st Century, Silent Hedges, The Dog's a Vapour, All We Ever Wanted. If you liked these songs, the first album I would get would be either In the Flat Field (first album, yes, but they have an amazing rawness on this recording that they never quite duplicate in their more polished later albums) or one of the live recordings, like Gotham or Rest in Peace, which have the character of a "greatest hits" type of selection with the energy of a live concert.

Peter Murphy: Final Solution, Time Has Got Nothing to Do With It, Deep Ocean Vast Sea, The Line Between the Devil's Teeth, Cuts You Up (of course!), The Sweetest Drop, Keep Me From Harm, Subway, Wild Birds Flock to Me, Cascade, Surrendered, Breaking No One's Heaven, Things to Remember, Just for Love, I Spit Roses. If you like these, first full album I'd get would be either Cascade or Ninth, esp. as he's touring Ninth shortly and you might be able to catch some of it live. :-)

L&R: So Alive, Ball of Confusion, **** (Jungle Law), RIP 20c, Resurrection Hex. No, I'm not as much a fan of L&R as I am of the others...they became so pop-oriented that they just bored me. Sorry L&R fans...I invite you to write your own review and contradict me if you'd like. :-)

Tones on Tail: Yep, they only did one album, so not much to say. Go! is a classic club track...the others sound like the other 3 boys of Bauhaus trying to make a Bauhaus album without Peter Murphy. So, if you listen to the Bauhaus tracks above and you really like the instrumental side of the music and feel kind of *meh* about the vocals, give this a shot. I am not one of these people, but wanted to put it out there in case someone else is.

If I wanted an actual "essentials" compilation of these artists, that's what I'd get. Just my $.02, for your consideration/edification/whatever. This collection certainly wouldn't be it.
