Seattle songsmith Brandi Carlile may not be a household name — yet — but titanic talents like T-Bone Burnett, Rick Rubin, Elton John, and the Indigo Girls have already been bowled over enough to work with her. And talent, like water, seeks its own level. Part of the reason the rising troubadour has stirred up so much attention is her absolute emotional commitment; you can hear it loud and clear in the raw, unfettered cry of her keening vocal on "The Story." It's in everything she does, from her heavy-hearted howl on the Lucinda Williams-meets-Melissa Etheridge roots-rocker "Dreams" to her heaven-sent harmonies with the Indigo Girls on the burnished, bittersweet ballad "Cannonball." And when Carlile tackles Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," daring to court comparison with such esteemed interpreters as Jeff Buckley and Rufus Wainwright, you'd better believe she's got good reason to take that chance.

Good start
I wish there were more live performances available from her. Her vocals cannot fully be appreciated until heard live. BTW itunes, fix your spelling on the Brandi Carlile itunes essentials picture. There is no S in her last name....
This is just the beginning
This album is a great introduction to Brandi Carlile, but there is so many more amazing songs that you should discover, too. She is a definitey must-see live in concert because she is phenomenal! Her band/back-up singers/co-writers and incredible, too. I can't believe that she hasn't hit the main stream yet, but I'm kinda glad she hasn't because that makes her more accessible for the die hard Brandi fans! Love her!
Great vocalist and music
Saw her live at DMB this year on Randall's Island. Great and humble performer, amazing voice! Highly recommend for anyone who loves solid acoustic music. She will be added to my annual concert list.
