- 1. "Pressure Drop" by Toots & The Maytals: "I really dig the whole rock steady thing. You can just feel the sweaty pulse of some club in Kingston throbbing with this music. I love these singers as well. Toots Hibbert is incredible, so breathless and excited to be singing he almost seems like he can't get the words out fast enough to suit his fever. I challenge anyone to find me a vocal performance to top 'Pressure Drop' for pure joyous breathless fervor. — Adam Duritz"
- 2. "Concrete Jungle" by Bob Marley & The Wailers: "It's important to note that the band on their first international release were known as the Wailers rather than Bob Marley and the Wailers as they were later called. When the deluxe version of Catch A Fire was released last year, it included the original Jamaican version of the album as it was before the tapes were taken to England and remixed. On this version, you can really hear their roots as a vocal trio. Bob Marley is featured, but so are Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston in equal parts. The f"
- 3. "Pink Moon" by Nick Drake: "Simple. Beautiful. Heartbreakin'. — David Bryson"
- 6. "Pale Blue Eyes (1969)" by The Velvet Underground: " When Lou Reed sings a song I always believe he's telling me the truth. It's simple and genuine. The verses of 'Pale Blue Eyes' show you love as we live it — dysfunctional and contradictory. But the chorus forgives all and you can hear the way he feels — and you know that this is a love song. (I may as well mention that my wife has pale blue eyes.) — Charlie Gillingham"
- 7. "Act I: Summertime" by Joe Henderson: "Porgy and Bess is a moving story about race, poverty, love and life. It contains several of the best songs of the twentieth century. 'Summertime' may be a bit tired to some, because it has been covered on thousands of records over the years. But the fact is, it's perfect. Listen to the bitterness of a nanny singing these lyrics 'Your daddy's rich and your momma's good looking, so hush little baby, don't you cry' and then the love of 'One of these mornings you're going to rise up singing and you'll spre"
- 13. "Love Ain't for Keeping" by The Who: "The way Roger sings it, it makes me feel like I'm flying. — Matt Malley"
- 14. "Fly" by Nick Drake: "I can curl up in Nick's lap and coo as he sings lovingly to me. — Matt Malley"
