The late-'80s brainchild of Los Angeles DJs Matt Dike and Michael Ross, Delicious Vinyl is the minor label that became a major figure in the evolution of hip-hop, by championing acts that would define "phat"-ness in a melting pot of underground grooves. Delicious Vinyl cofounders Ross and Dike met Young MC (Marvin Young) at USC and launched him to near-instant acclaim. Tracks like "Know How" from 1989's Stone Cold Rhymin', showcase Young's lightning-quick way with syllables. With the addition of the Brand New Heavies and the Pharcyde, DV continued to punch above its weight through the '90s.
