    • 2. "My Cherie Amour" by Stevie Wonder: "Thank God for you Stevie... for coming into my world and making it joyous in sound. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to have not known the contours of your glorious voice in the shape of song."

    • 2. "Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones: "Seeing Rolling Stones play a free concert Live in Hyde Park London at 17 years-old was a turning point in my life. Being amongst all those people and hearing 'Sympathy for the Devil' go in and out of phase in the breeze while the pungent smell of Jamaican herb wafted through the crowd, a sea of arms waving and people dancing, kissing dirty jeans, naked torsos, ecstatic faces and Mick prowling the stage singing 'Pleased to meet you..." - A diamond in my head."
    • 5. "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" by U2: "After a brilliant career and just when you thought "where can they go now?", U2 brings out a collection of songs that are full of surprises, and this song in particular gave me goosebumps. The vulnerability in Bono's voice and the subject matter (his father) with a beautiful gentle yet mature and backing track that pushes you further into the abyss till you understand what lies ahead for all of us."
    • 6. "So Much Trouble in the World" by Bob Marley: "I first heard this track on headphones riding in a cab in NYC after buying the Smiths Album Meat is Murder. It was an amazing sensation hearing Johhny Marr's guitar opening as the cab was sliding around Greenwich Village and then Morrisey's voice and lyrics coming in so strong yet sounding like so confidentally alienated with the slide guitar creating such a dark backdrop."
    • 7. "Cleanin' Out My Closet" by Eminem: "Eminem is a genius lyricist, and the raw honesty of this song is scary and a brave thing to write. His delivery is brilliant and unique against Dre's sparse but infectious track."
    • 9. "Village Ghetto Land" by Stevie Wonder: "Stevie with strings at his fingertips and making them sound like a Stevie Wonder orchestra. A simple and minimal recording but with great ironic lyrics sung by the master."
    • 10. "C'était une histoire d'amour" by Edith Piaf: "I always go weak at the knees when I hear Piaf sing, and this song sets up any romantic evening."
    • 15. "The Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles: "Poetry in motion. His voice is unique, his lyrics pure magic, and one of my favorite singles."
    • 17. "O Superman (For Massenet)" by Laurie Anderson: "I love Laurie Anderson - always have from the moment I heard this on UK radio. Within minutes, it had gone to number one! It affected so many people instantly like a drug."
