For any Southern Californian country musician, the specter of Bakersfield to the north looms large, and so it is with Gary Allan. His '50s-style guitar tones and use of steel and fiddle harks back to Buck Owens, with an occasional nod to Marty Stuart and Chris Isaak's neo-retro sound. In contrast to some of his overamped competition, Allan is refreshingly NASCAR- and jingoist politics-free, with songs concentrating more on the personal, rather than public, issues.

Gary is so awesome...his songs touch your soul.
This is my kind of soul
There is not a day that one of Gary Allan's songs doesn't fit my mood, whether it be sad, happy, rowdy, motivated, angry or just plain excitable; seriously you name it and he's got the song for your mood. I've seen Gary only one time in concert and have set a goal to get out to another NOW! His edge is what gets me the most, he has so much soul in that rough voice of his and it just pulls me right into every word and the backgroud music is phenomenal. With each album he steps it up, as if that were possible to begin with, but his edge is stronger on this last album "Get off on the Pain" ...I cant wait to hear what's next! Plain and simple: I'm a huge fan and wish there was more in his league, some day I'd love to shake his hand and just say "Thanks for making music for me!"
