Like fellow British neo-soul talent Lewis Taylor, Jamie Lidell's sublime vocal skills have been delivered slowly but surely on the grapevine, and he also brings to the table the extra dimension of his production work in experimental techno (as one half of Super_Collider). This means that after setting out his mid-'00s solo stall with Multiply (check out the uplifting title track and the raw-hearted sincerity of "Game for Fools") and Jim (2008) (the brighter-than-sun-rays "Another Day"; up-tempo finger-popper "Wait for Me"), we're treated to the dizzyingly imaginative backing arrangements of 2010's Compass — this is soul that fits squarely into the second decade of the 21st century, constructed with help from the likes of Feist, Beck, and Grizzly Bear. Marvel at the title track and the countless sonic subtleties of "She Needs Me."

One funky fresh white boy
I have been downloading his music for about 5 years now. So much talent, no radio airplay, what a shame. Great voice, great original beats and superb composition. The boy is bad. Stay up.
There might be hope for new music yet...
In a world where talent is judged on reality TV shows, there comes along a true artist with real, raw talent. It's a breath of fresh air to hear this sound. My hope has been restored in humanity!
