  • Extreme Party Shuffle Experience

"This shuffled set of songs popped out of my iTunes the other day and really took me on a cool musical trip. I never thought I would get into the shuffle thing, but after so many friends told me they were using it all the time, I thought I'd try it. The first fourteen songs I heard just blew me away. After 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' I took a moment to write the playlist down. This set gives you a peek into my current iTunes library and its quirky nature. I'm always re-filling it with artists that intrigue me from old to new, and all corners of the musical world. Check it out, and enjoy the ride."

    • 1. "Better All the Time" by Scene Creamers: "This band is cool. The guitar arrangements are so much fun to listen to, and the songs are all unique in their own way. The syncopated wah-wah on this track really does the trick. I find myself listening to this a lot these days."
    • 2. "I Wanna Be Your Dog" by Iggy Pop: "I love Iggy Pop. This song has kept me mesmerized for so many years it's not funny. There is something creepy yet beautiful about it. It still has the magic in it. The sound is haunting and raw."
    • 3. "Pictures of Home" by Deep Purple: "Years ago I had the pleasure to join the original Deep Purple for two tours, replacing the irreplaceable Ritchie Blackmore. When we got around to playing this piece, each night you could feel the vibe kick into a higher gear. It was always one of my favorites to perform. The original recording from Machine Head is awesome."
    • 4. "Red Alert" by Tony Williams: "The first time I heard Allen Holdsworth play guitar, time stood still. It was the Tony Williams New Lifetime record Believe It playing at a friend's house just after a jam session. The drummer turned to me and said, 'There's this guy who's doing what you're trying to do.' Then he put on the record. He was right. I became an instant fan from that day on. On the song "Red Alert" he plays the most beautiful and thrilling guitar solo. Solos should always be this good."
    • 5. "Venus In Furs" by The Velvet Underground & Nico: "This is such a strangely seductive song. I still can't stop wanting to hear it again and again, just to see if I've noticed all its subtleties. Lou Reed is the coolest! The collection it comes from is a must for any Velvet Underground fan."
    • 7. "Please Let Me Go (LP Version)" by Eddie Harris: "Eddie Harris played sax in the most original way. He devised a special mouthpiece that allowed him to vocalize through his horn and make his recordings so unique. He was a master musician and a virtuoso horn player who could melt your heart with the most tender ballad, and make you laugh with his great sense of humor. Eddie Harris Sings The Blues is such a cool album, there's nothing quite like, except maybe another Eddie Harris album!"
    • 9. "Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan: "I have always treasured this recording. It has the coolest arrangement, courtesy of Led Zep's John Paul Jones. It also has Jimmy Page on guitar and John Bonham on drums! It's such a great trip back in time that still holds on to its own identity today. Donovan creates such a cool vibe with his vocals and strange lyrics. I was just a kid when this came out, but I still love listening to it today."
