- 1. "Wrapped Around Your Finger" by The Police: "This is the first song that I remember having an emotional response to. It's one of those sonic postcards from the '80s that remind me of being a kid. It's just as vital sounding today."
- 3. "Worry, Worry (Regal Theatre)" by B.B. King: "Live at the Regal is my favorite B.B. King album. It might be the best live blues album ever made. B.B. leads an incredible band and the way they all stop on a dime and change tunes is amazing. And the man performs."
- 4. "Sleeping with the Lights On" by Teitur: "My favorite new artist. I got 6 seconds into this song before I smiled and thought 'oh, yah.' Beautiful stuff."

Sources of inspiration
These are excellent sources of inspiration. It's amazing to listen to these examples and then listen to Mayer's music. It's always fascinating to see and hear a little of the inner music-making process. Cool.
a taste of John Mayer's musical roots- interesting...and my own musings/rambling
I enjoy hearing the songs that made JM who he is today. I particularly enjoyed seeing a video of a concert of Stevie Ray Vaughn...possibly the last before he died, that John posted on an un-named social networking site that he uses most often, as today is the 20th anniversary of SRV's death. It just blows me away as a woman in my 50's (I was 36 when Stevie Ray Vaughn died) to realize that "little johnny" was only 12! He was inspired to sing the blues at 12!?! That's truly amazing. How did he get in touch with the blues at such an early age!! Maybe he is an old soul; or he's been through a lot in this lifetime. The blues cannot be mimicked like some basic rock with 3 chords and a basic beat. (Pop, in other words). I do think that from these artists and Stevie Ray V, he learned the complexity of truly good music. Or that good music is complex and not formulaic and simple. Or maybe he was black in his last incarnation. I don't believe in it, but just throwing it out there to explore all possibilities with equanimity. Love you, John Mayer!! You will be here - Salt Lake City, UT area next week and I CANNOT GO!! I'm on disability due to 5 separate chronic condigtions that prevent me from working. I am beyond broke! I may just go sit in the parking lot and hear what I can. :| Oh well. I'm still living in the times of $25.00 be a lot for a concert ticket. Now it's $45 to sit on the lawn behind the seated folks. My daughter, more John Mayer's age, says that this is due to all the music piracy on the internet. Makes sense to me.

how is this horrible? its a CELEBRITY PLAYLIST. they choose whatever they want. inspiration (in this case). old, new, it doesn't matter. its an insight to what these people listen to. do you only listen to NEW things? if so, im guessing you have a crappy taste in music.. cause theres a lot of old stuff if you will, that is really really excellent. and theres nothing new that will compare to it.
this all being said. i find this interesting. there's always songs through your life that you can alawys recall back to when you heard them.
