Kids Zoo Songs

The world's most exotic creatures appear in our collection of sing-along creature classics, delivered by some of pop music's most legendary artists. We've got Elton John's reptilian boogie "Crocodile Rock," Simon & Garfunkel's "At the Zoo," and Carole King's alphabetical compendium of kids 'n' creatures, "Alligators All Around."

Antipodean animals feature big in the middle section of our croon-along zoo selection, including "Kiki Kangaroo" by South Carolina native Steve Weeks, who shows the full scope of his impressive tongue-twisting wordplay, as well as some handy finger-picking, and "Kookaburra" by incredibly versatile jazz vocalist Jeanette Lambert.

Rex Harrison sang "Talk to the Animals" in the 1967 movie Doctor Dolittle, but instead of the original we've included here the splendid, exuberant cover version by the all-singing, all-dancing Johnathan Lee Iverson, the first African-American ringmaster of a major U.S. circus — the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey extravaganza.

You'll find a menagerie of colorful creatures in our virtual musical zoo, but the loveliest of all, at least according to the Irish Rovers, is the unicorn. Choose your own favorite from assorted beasts, including "Henry the Octopus" (the Wiggles), who loves to cook for his friends and is skilled at making seaweed pie; Joe McDermott's "Baby Kangaroo," who bounces and bounces and bounces; and Sara Hickman's "Little Yella Dog," who tangles with a mean, tough bear.
