    • 2. "Blue Ridge Mountains" by Fleet Foxes: "I spotted their EP at Amoeba Records and made a 'blind' purchase because the cover art was pretty cool. I ended up falling in love with their soaring melodies and beautiful blend of harmonies. They're a great live band as well. Truly classic."
    • 3. "Whatever It Is" by Ben Lee: "Ben is a real gem and I'm lucky to call him a friend. I had the opportunity to open for him a year or so ago on an Australian tour and remember getting goosebumps listening to him open his set with this song."
    • 4. "Couldn't I Just Tell You" by Todd Rundgren: "No musical journey is complete without a little Todd . . . this record is by far my favorite of his. I love how live it was, complete with talking before takes, etc . . . I'm still amazed that he was able to just into some of those songs so beautifully."
    • 5. "Start a War" by The National: "His voice and this song literally make my heart ache. I feel as if it's something that's on the edge of shattering at any minute, it's that fragile."
    • 6. "C*********k" by Mike Viola: "Man, I truly could have made an entirely separate list of just Mike's songs. He's a genius and unbelievably bright, sweetheart of a guy. I'm so lucky to have made my record with him and to call him a friend. When I first heard this song, it broke me....and yet I played it about 7 times in a row."
    • 7. "Mornings Will Be Kind" by Midlake: "I remember standing on my toes at the back of bar in Lawrence, Kansas watching these guys play a set and instantly became a huge fan. This song is a great piece of quirky ear candy."
    • 8. "Furr" by Blitzen Trapper: "It's difficult to not be completely drawn in by such a beautifully executed sound...it's quite a throwback. Love it. Ya know, just your typical song about becoming a wolf . . ."
    • 10. "Elephants" by Rachael Yamagata: "Rach is like my sister and I adore her. She's truly a talent to behold and we were lucky to have her on the road with us for the last tour. It was beyond a pleasure to listen to her sing this song a cappella EVERY night . . . long before the record came out. These words still BLOW me away."
    • 11. "That Song About the Midway" by Bonnie Raitt: "This record is one of my favorites as well. That voice? Good gracious. Not sure it gets any better. I love that Joni Mitchell wrote this song too."
    • 12. "Second Hand News" by Fleetwood Mac: "This is music I revisited and listened to obsessively while working on the new album. You can't beat those harmonies."
    • 13. "Early In the Morning" by Harry Nilsson: "This tune is all about Harry. I'm obsessed with the simple production of the song . . . instantly drawn in as usual."
    • 14. "Delivered" by Mark Erelli: "The first time I heard this was during a live performance and Mark just blew me away. It's pretty remarkable how he managed to capture that same depth, patience, and tenderness on the record."
    • 15. "Place to Be" by Nick Drake: "He deserves to be on every list. His music is always a bit melancholy but beautifully so and very settled in its place. His voice and guitar never fail to hit that spot, ya know?"

Northwestern Girl

What a great play list! LOVE all these songs. Best playlist I've seen on here!

Um... Ryan Adams?!?

She's married to one of the greatest modern day troubadours and can't include one song from his deep powerful library of emotion??? What does a guy need to do to a get a girl's attention?

Texas

Thiw was one of the best mixes I have ever seen on a playlist. I like how thought out it was and you're right these songs seem to describe themselves.
