"I don't listen to music to change or reinforce my mood. This is not a playlist for having sex. It's not for cheering up. It's not for a party at the beach. Playlists for me are just lists of music I want to listen to. This playlist is music to listen to music by. It's all great music, but it doesn't have a flow. It is, perversely and anally (and those are very different things), in alphabetical order. I hope some of it is new to you, and I hope some of it reminds you of music you already know, but may need another listen."

    • 1. "Lulu: "Sie Glauben Nicht" - "Könntest Du Dich Für Heute Nachmittag"" by Franz Mazura, Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris, Pierre Boulez, Teresa Stratas & Yvonne Minton: "Sometimes you just got to listen to really depressing, 20th Century 12 tone music. If you start thinking that rock 'n' roll got far out, listen to this and shut up."
    • 3. "Firecracker Firecracker" by Half Japanese: "The band that would be king. Wow. I think Kramer, the genius, is on this. Or he produced it. Or something."
    • 4. "The Soldier's Tale: March Royale" by Nicholas Ward & Northern Chamber Orchestra: "Hey, you gotta have some Igor. Man. This kills me."
    • 5. "Open Up, Summertime" by John Simon: "He produced everything done in the '70s and this is the album he did for himself. It's all the great NYC sessions cats before they were famous. Some of my favorite bass playing."
    • 6. "Modern World" by Early Lines: "'The modern world is not so bad, not like the hippies say.' Even years later, you can't beat that."
    • 7. "A*****e from el Paso" by Kinky Friedman: "The next governor of Texas."
    • 8. "Licks off of Records" by Fabulous Furniture & Martin Mull: "He's an Aristocrat! "
    • 9. "Me and the Boys" by NRBQ: "Pure joy, from the best rock 'n' roll band that ever lived."
    • 10. "The Gravy Waltz" by Ray Brown & Oscar Peterson: "Yeah, Oscar Peterson is playing on this too, but I only hear Ray. Imagine being able to play like that. We'll have to imagine because no one else will ever play like that."
    • 11. "God Isn't Real" by Robbie Fulks: "Because he isn't."
    • 12. "Rocket Number Nine" by Sun Ra: "He was from Saturn, really. The music proves it. "
    • 13. "All the Same" by The Thornbirds: "Dean Cameron is the bass player and I love him. "
