No Crimson???

Prog Rock essentials with no King Crimson? Someone dropped the ball here...

Heres the problem...

For many reasons when iTunes makes these essntials, they can only use songs that can be bought individually. If you are familiar with prog rock and itunes you should already know that most songs over 9 minutes can only purchased with an album. In prog rock however most of the best, most epic or most influential songs are over 9 minutes (Close to the Edge, Suppers Ready, 2112, Tarkus, ect.) Because of this, major songs from the leading artists in this genre are missing. This means that they have to put more mediocre songs from the better artists along with some good songs from mediocre artists (so that there is a large number of artists in the collection). If this was a list of the best prog rock songs I truely doubt this list would have 15 of the 75 on there. There would probably not be artists like Styx, Asia, Henry Crow, The Strawbs, or Wishbone Ash (who ive never heard of) on there either. However, the selections they made point towards and introduction of a new listner of the genre. If you are an avid prog rock lover like I am than you most likely have the songs from the major bands like Yes, Genesis and Rush and dont really care for bands like Wishbone Ash. I also like, as some people have already pointed out, that bands like Gentle Giant and Renaissance (who are highly underated) made the list. Also it is missing King Crimson because iTunes doesn't have them and is lacking in modern prog as other reviews have already pointed out. For what its purpose is, its not a bad list. I would stay away from buying the whole collection if you are new, however. There are much better ways to approach the genre. If you are like me and you are just admiring prog rock than you probably won't be buying anything either.
P.S.- Yes had most of their album covers (the cool ones anyways) done by the great Roger Dean

Anyone with me here?

Is it just me or does Yes have the fricken coolest album covers ever?
