  • For our "Playlist Favorites," we decided to feature tunes from bands we like enough to spend time playing with. All of these bands are sharing the stage (or have already) with us: some played with us in Austin at SXSW, others at the Royal Albert Hall, and some will be with us as we travel the US and Europe this summer.

    • 1. "Dashboard" by Modest Mouse: "Sublime post-modern sea shanty from the Issaquah, Washington five-piece . . . check out their latest album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank. Be sure to look for them on the road with us this summer."
    • 2. "Secret Meeting" by The National: "Melodic jangles and introspective lyrics color this haunting track from the National's album, Boxer. Look for them on tour with us in the USA."
    • 3. "An End Has a Start" by Editors: "Visceral dance rock with incendiary flair from this Jacknife Lee-produced, Brit Award-nominated, Birmingham four-piece who will support us in Europe this summer."
    • 4. "Olympic Airways" by Foals: "Ethereal, dancy rave-up from the angular Oxford pop band who supported us at the Royal Albert Hall in March. Their new album, Antidotes, is out on Transgressive/Sub Pop."
    • 5. "Adventure Rocket Ship" by Robyn Hitchcock: "Fine balance of abstract surrealism, interplanetary exploration, and nonpareil pop hooks from the dalai lama of abstract metaphysical popcraft. Check out Robyn's latest, Ole Tarantula, on Yep Roc Records with messers Buck and McCaughey."
    • 6. "curtain song" by papercranes: "Blissed-out tapestry of sound and honey-laced trippy vocals from this GA-FL band fronted by Rain Phoenix who supported us at SXSW."
    • 7. "Pasadena" by Modern Skirts: "New Americana through a southern-spun prism with California harmonies from this Athens band who will support us in Amsterdam."
    • 8. "Further North" by Johnathan Rice: "LA singer-songwriter goes bold and brave with his new guitar-driven country-glam ethos on the title track from his 2007 release on Reprise . . . thanks for the great support at SxSW."
