Like many indie pop success stories, Rogue Wave started with hooks and harmonies constantly bouncing around the head of a born songwriter. Zach Rogue in this case, a dot-com casualty who recruited a backing band after he wrote and recorded the self-released Out of the Shadow. Well, self-released until Sub Pop heard it and quickly reissued the sunbeam bursts of "Nourishment Nation" and the gentle, river-drift ruminations of "Be Kind & Remind" and "Man-Revolutionary!" Lo-fi start aside, Rogue's group has aimed for the stars ever since, garnering the attention of Jack Johnson (who released the borderline arena rock inclinations of Asleep at Heaven's Gate) and landing songs on key video game (the feathery Buddy Holly cover "Everyday"), TV (the thumping O.C. favorite "Publish My Love"), and movie (the slide-guitar drawl of "Sightlines," the spare bedroom balladry of "Eyes") soundtracks.
