  • "Asking about my favorite songs and singers is like asking a man who loves to eat about food. If it's good, I like it all — from gospel tunes to show tunes and everything in between. When it comes to artists, the young ones of today like Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, Beyonce, and the young guy that sings 'Ordinary People' (John Legend), if you love music like I do, you have to enjoy all of this. And I tell you something else, I love country music, how can you beat Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. So I don't know what to say to you, but here is a list of some of my favorite tunes. I'd say it's more of a taste than a full meal. Sit down and enjoy the musical gumbo."

    • 4. "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)" by Gladys Knight & The Pips: "I can't leave out my sister, who gives me chills everytime I hear her sing this one."
    • 5. "So What the Fuss" by Stevie Wonder: "I can't leave out my brother, always keeping his sound new."
    • 11. "My World" by Smokey Robinson: "The title track from my album and it's a new favorite in my show."
    • 12. "Fallin'" by Smokey Robinson: "The musical collaboration with my dear friend Mickey Stevenson bridges classic Motown and today's style."
    • 13. "The Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles: "It's the kind of song that touches everyone at some point their lives."

Smokey Knows Music

How can someone who is a legend like Smokey Robinson, and who undoubtedly has made some of the world's most memorable songs, be disputed?? His list is fabulous and I wish he had given us more of his flavor of music. Much of it mimics my own and I wholeheartedly agree that if you are a music lover you embrace all genres of music, but just have your favorites within each.
My iPod Nano has R&B soul, jazz, gospel, classical and country - which are my favorites.
So, KUDOS to you Smokey! Look forward to seeing you again when you return to Lehman College Performing Arts Center - never miss a show!
