    • 1. "Bedlam" by Elvis Costello & The Imposters: "I was lucky enough to be invited on tour with EC & the Imposters last year and this song was one of the highlights every night. I've loved Elvis since I was a kid; the Bacharach record, the Brodsky record, the Attraction records, the aggressive stuff, everything! His new live record is magnificent too."
    • 2. "Heard 'Em Say" by Kanye West & Adam Levine: "I heard this on some hip-hop radio, sounding like nothing else on. I find this to be a really touching song. And like everyone else these days, I'd love to work with Mr. West."
    • 4. "A Dream Goes On Forever" by Todd Rundgren: "This is one of the prettiest songs I know. A classic and one of many Rundgren gems. To me he is the ultimate piano ballad maestro."
    • 5. "Dindi" by Astrud Gilberto: "A beautiful song with a mind-blowing arrangement, typical of the magic of a lot of Brazilian pop music. If you like this, check out Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Djavan. A huge inspiration."
    • 6. "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)" by Talking Heads: "This track is all nervous excitement. Very far from what I do, and that's probably part of the appeal. I don't have a clue what's going on, but I just have to hear it again."
    • 7. "H Gang" by Donald Fagen: "A promising, if predictable, preview from his new solo record. With Steely Dan you always know it's good. Those guys have never delivered anything less than great. Donald Fagen is the very definition of cool."
    • 9. "1 Thing" by Amerie: "A really addictive song, probably the best thing I heard on commercial radio all of last year. Obviously, this is a producer's song. But the video was all Amerie's."
