  • "We've always wanted to make an itunes playlist, because there are few things in life more satisfying than turning people on to good music. But it wasn't until we were finally given the opportunity that we realized just how daunting the task really is. We could have easily compiled a playlist of hundreds of songs that would all fall under the category of 'favorites,' so narrowing it down was a challenge. Where to begin? We had to be selective, so we stayed away from the classics — they've been included on enough playlists already. We also stayed away from the big names — what's the point if everyone's already heard the song? This was a chance to showcase some of the best songs of the past few years, and hopefully turn some people on to some new music. So here they are, 24 songs to blow your mind . . . enjoy."

    • 1. "Major Leagues" by Pavement: "Here's a tune off of the record that has gotten me home from LA on many a night drives; this track hits around Orange County somewhere if you drive fast enough."
    • 2. "I Turn My Camera On" by Spoon: "You have headphones on — so you can't tell that you're breathing a little louder than you should and that your toe is tapping noisily on the ground. You have a silly grin on your face and I'm pretty sure this track is ringing in your ears."
    • 4. "The Recluse" by Cursive: "Tim Kasher and company, one of the best things to come out of Omaha, and that's a big statement. "
    • 5. "Life and Limb" by Fugazi: "Groundbreaking song/album/band. "
    • 6. "Old Soul Song (For the New World Order)" by Bright Eyes: "Conner Oberst is arguably one of the best songsmiths around right now. I love the mood that the opening lines evoke in this song — classic Oberst. He seems to have an abundance of brilliant songs hidden up his sleeve."
    • 7. "Closer" by Matt Pond PA: "These guys do it well, no fanfare or hype, just great songs. This was the first song that turned me on to their well-crafted NY tunes."
    • 9. "Alameda" by Elliott Smith: "Among my favorite Rainy day music. He came to town during an electrical storm once- and the power went out right before his set. He came out with candles and an acoustic guitar and played until the lights came back on. his voice is dearly missed. "
    • 11. "Lovers Need Lawyers" by The Good Life: "Tim Kasher's (Cursive) latest project. He's frustrated with life and love, and that makes for great songs. "
    • 13. "The Electric Version" by The New Pornographers: "This song will make you dance. "
    • 14. "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service: "Such a clever opening line. Love it."
    • 15. "Fortress" by Pinback: "Some hometown pride. San Diego heros Rob Crow + ex-three mile pilot Armistead Burwell Smith IV and Tom Zinsor = amazing. "
    • 17. "Kissing the Lipless" by The Shins: "Explosive melody, amazing lyrics. One of the most endearing records in a long time."
    • 18. "Track 1" by Sigur Rós: "Music so beautiful that they needed to invent a new language to sing it. Seriously."

Great, non-Christian choices.

That just proves how little you actually know about music. You're still stuck in the "if it's not Christian it's not good" mindset. Have you even listened to the songs on this playlist? This has some great stuff! I'm proud that Switchfoot isn't afraid to admit they listen to secular music. They've got a lot of my favorite bands on here (Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith, and Sigur Ros to name a few). Awesome playlist, guys! A lot better than some I've seen.

not at all surprised!

In a good way of course. Not everyones cup of tea I suppose, but if you like Switchfoot, I wouldnt be surprised if you like these songs. I love Switchfoot, their songs are the soundtrack to my life it seems. Was i at all surprised to hear these songs on here? No haha, i can definitely see where they get their inspiration and their styles. I love that the songs on here are reminicent of songs such as Easier Than Love and so many others. It shows me everything this band has to offer as well, from their early days to the newest album. Great songs guys, and thanks for the new additions to my musical likings.
