  • Ted Allen's Picks' Celebrity Playlist

    In no particular order:

    • 2. "Bend & Break" by Keane: "You gotta love really, really fey, really, really anthemic Britpop. This whole album is so soaring and pretty."
    • 4. "Handshake Drugs" by Wilco: "Best song on the new album. Except for 'Company in My Back.' Nobody writes smarter, sadder, better songs about people you love and also want to kill. I can't believe I lived in Chicago for 13 years and was too stupid to go see the band that would eventually become my favorite band."
    • 7. "Keep Moving" by Ivy: "Sleek and chic, like everything Ivy has recorded."
    • 8. "Mona Lisa" by Jesse Malin: "Smart, cool, real rock. Any band that plays with Jackson Browne at John Varvatos parties is cool by me."
    • 9. "Up with People" by Lambchop: "Brilliant, subtle, weird and beautiful. Dark and joyful. (Thank God I'm not a rock critic — all these vague adjectives aren't very helpful, but I'm serious about them). I adore everything this band has ever recorded. They're from Nashville. I think there are about 75 of them."
    • 10. "There She Goes" by The La's: "It is completely impossible to not be happy when you play this song. And none of the cover versions have ever come close to this one, the original. Which is to say that I really wish people would stop trying to cover it."
    • 11. "The Shining" by Badly Drawn Boy: "The perfect opening suite to a rich, dense, fascinating album, front to back. Buy it."
    • 14. "Krafty" by New Order: "Sweet, dopey lyrics that don't make any sense, that great, high-register stuff from Peter Hook's bass, pretty guitar chords. New classic New Order."

  • Jai Rodriguez's Picks' Celebrity Playlist

Okay, so my playlist is all pop and R&B. I know the other guys are more rock driven, so this list is a shout out to all my top 20 lovers.

    • 6. "This Time I Know It's for Real" by Donna Summer: "This is a song I remember hearing in my mom's car over and over on long trips. I love it."
    • 7. "No More Drama" by Mary J. Blige: "I was going through a break up when this song came out. It will forever be my anthem."
    • 9. "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" by Stevie Wonder: "What a voice on Stevie. Who wouldn't want someone to pledge this vow to them. It very romantic, yet upbeat."
    • 10. "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani: "Sometimes I just wanna be Gwen Stefani. This song is the closest I am going to get to that, in my bathroom mirror with a hairbrush."
    • 11. "Baby, Get Lost" by Queen Latifah: "I love Dana Owens' sound. It's real pure and not affected. It brings jazz to a new generation. I love it."
    • 12. "He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat)" by Jill Scott: "I did RENT with Jill Scott and she would play songs she was writing. I don't think any of us knew how famous she would become. I listen to these songs now and remember her playing songs on her guitar in that Vancouver hotel room."

    • 2. "Poses" by Rufus Wainwright: "It is almost impossible for me to put in to words why these songs, any song, move me and what they mean to me. It is especially hard to express why Rufus' work is so moving. His verses and music are hauntingly beautiful and truthful. Poses exposes our mixed up priorities."
    • 4. "Radio Ga Ga" by Queen: "This is just one of those songs I will always love because it represents an era and has a distinct sound and feel. Freddie Mercury is missed . . . "
    • 6. "Movies of Myself" by Rufus Wainwright: "Rufus Wainwright's voice and lyrics are addictive. This is one of my favorite of his songs."
    • 11. "Dream On (Live)" by Aerosmith: "Aerosmith is arguably the best American rock band ever. This song is a classic right up there with 'Hotel California' by the Eagles. It reminds me of my childhood and adolescence."
    • 12. "Planet Queen" by T. Rex: "I love T-Rex and this is one of my favorites."

  • Carson Kressley's Picks' Celebrity Playlist
    • 1. "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" by Cher: "I like the new Cher, the classic Cher, and everything in between. This one tells a great story . . . just whose perfume was it? Ah, gentle listener, tune in and find out!"
    • 4. "Filthy Gorgeous (Extended Original)" by Scissor Sisters: "Who says filthy can't be gorgeous? It's dirty and clean all at the same time. Oh, the irony."
    • 6. "Rich Girl" by Gwen Stefani & Eve: "Inspired by a showtune from Fiddler on the Roof. Sexy, updated and hot. Maybe they should do it for Fiddler on the Roofies."
    • 7. "The Wonder of It All" by Kristine W: "The gay anthem for Summer '05. Ask for this one at your favorite tea dance. If you have to ask what a tea dance is, you probably won't like it."
    • 10. "Send In the Clowns" by Judy Collins: "Okay, just seeing if you are paying attention. My bad."
