As dark and downright dangerous as most guitar-toting acts want to appear, few bands ooze equal doses of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll quite like the Kills. Primed for maximum impact as a slim-and-sadistic two-piece, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince (aka VV and Hotel) trade vocals and licks like jilted lovers clad in nothing but black and damaged leather. To make things even more minimal and menacing, the cold, calculated percussion of a drum machine often peeks out from the lo-fi mix, lending a gut-punching low end to such tracks as "Love Is a Deserter," "U.R.A. Fever," and "Sour Cherry." And then there's the way a synth (or is it a severely mangled guitar chord?) is turned into a skin-crawling layer of smoke in "No Wow," a song that nails the mission statement of "Cheap and Cheerful": "I want you to be crazy/'Cause you're boring, baby, when you're straight."

the kills kill it, but itunes does it disservice
The Kills are one of the best alt-rock bands going and this is a modest but strong assortment of what they're capable of. Nonetheless, I can't believe itunes misrepresented it by including a song by The Dead Weather. That's a different band altogether that just happens to have Alison Mosshart in it. It doesn't represent The Kills. I get that VV and Hotel are on here - it's The Kills under a different name, but it's still Alison and Jamie. If itunes did an essentials collection of The White Stripes, would The Raconteurs be included?? Still, it's worth buying if you just want a "starter" taste of this band.
The Kills are Amazing! This doesn't begin to do them justice
This essentials list has some good ones but there are many others that would make this list rock as hard as they do.
