If any band could be said to have captured the rose-tinted vision that captivated youth in the late '60s, the Mamas & the Papas were it. Still smarting from the British Invasion overthrow of the surf sound, California-as-musical-mecca roared back to life with the release of 1966's If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears, the band's musical debut that contained the anthemic "California Dreamin'." Thus was born the sound of sunshine.
