All Hail Amos, Queen of the 'I'll be damned"
Despite an artists need to invent or reinvent, do we ever see what gets left behind on the cutting room floor. Tori Amos closet is not only littered with skeletons but B-sides and concerts and interviews that portray themselves like a living gallery. And yet we're still left wanting. With each album she comes across as a child opening another old trunk and trying on what's inside, despite the size or outlandishness that she finds within. We're left staring (in our minds if nothing else) at the wonderment that we lost at some threshold in our lives. A constant reminder to us that the imagination is foreign and familiar in one throaty inhale and a belted exhale. This menagerie of those open trunks of clothes and memories is at once unmistakeable in its ability to transport you through a lifetime of pain and glee and suffering and joy and life. And if you venture into the lyrics, you'll become a minion, too. As you ring out after listening, 'I'll be damned".
not essential tori
if you are looking for the essential of all tori music, this album is so not for you. Its missing her beekeeper collection all live albums of that tour, plus the piano box set, her to venus and back live album sides her rareities, and also the live concerts of all her concerts of 2007. As a avid Tori fan, I have every single album and many of her single discs with the b sides. If you are looking for more tori, I suggest paying more and splurging on her wonderful box sets because they really are a must have for anyone who truly loves this artist.
