"Weird Al" Yankovic

  • The Basics

King of the novelty record for the MTV generation, "Weird Al" Yankovic has spent a career mocking, exposing, and needling the biggest names in pop, sometimes nailing his victims with a satirical skewer, sometimes shooting wide of the mark, but always worth a hearty chuckle. Who else could rework the Kinks' "Lola" into an homage to Yoda?

    $17.55 The Basics
  • Next Steps

Architecture student Alfred Matthew Yankovic — an accordionist since the age of seven — made his mark on college radio by spinning his own takeoff of the Knack's "My Sharona," played double-speed in a folky style as "My Bologna." The Knack liked it and persuaded their record company to release it as a single.

    $15.15 Next Steps
  • Deep Cuts

Some of Al's best work, besides the eggs he throws at pop celebrity egos, is delivered as lunatic homage, like the track "Genius in France" from Poodle Hat, written in tribute to Frank Zappa and featuring Dweezil Zappa on guitar. Another entirely original Weird Al cut is "Christmas at Ground Zero," a jolly apocalyptic ditty from 1986.

  • Complete Set

"Weird Al" Yankovic got his break at age 16 by slipping a homemade demo tape to radio legend Dr. Demento. Since then, he's been poking fun at popular icons in regular outbreaks, like a chronic case of hemorrhoids. No one is immune from his treatment, not even Avril Lavigne. Occasionally sublime (his vocal parody of Michael Jackson on "Fat" is genius), "Weird Al" is never less than ridiculous…in the best possible way, of course.

Awesome...

iTunes has done it again! They always put together great essential collections--this one is the BEST!!!

awsome!

this album is awsome and will make you laugh and cry.......jk buy this album!

Not even close!

I don't think this iTunes Essentials is anywhere near what Weird Al's biggest and most notable hits are! "Fat" is his signature song, not "Smells Like Nirvana"! The order in which they are listed is disgraceful! Why are recent songs like "Craigslist" and "Whatever You Like" so high up on the list? Just because they're his newest songs does not mean they're his best songs ever! Also, why are there so many rare and obscure songs on here like "Velvet Elvis", "Twister", "Truck Drivin' Song" and "Mr. Frump In the Iron Lung"? It's also missing a lot of great stuff! Where is "Lasagna", "I Love Rocky Road", "Headline News", and my most favorite Weird Al song of all time, "Jurrassic Park"? There are plenty of songs in his catalog to make this a full 75 song playlist; why narrow it down to only 45? This is an insult to the Parody King! They should have put him in charge of making this iTunes Essentials like he's done with his compilation CD's.
