Excellent Primer

This goup of songs is an excellent primer for the music lover who has not yet discovered the many wonders of the British band, XTC. As a collection this gives you a sense of what you will find on their other LPs as they evolved from a "new wave" band of the late 70's into rock music's most potent best-kept secret.

For the poster who asked who Andy Partridge is and what he is doing on an XTC list, Andy IS XTC. He is to XTC what Ray Davies is to The Kinks. Learn it.

Its very sad

XTC was that once in a lifetime magic which sometimes just happens. XTC was that special combination of Andy, Colin, Terry and others who made the one of a kind sound. And though Andy's solo works are wonderful there is a definite void. I miss XTC.

They Should Be Infamous

XTC is a GREAT band. They were just before their time. Everyone should listen to this. And then, we should all petition for them to go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. My view - if the Pretenders and the O'Jay's are in the Hall of Fame, XTC certainly deserves it! If Dear God hadn't been taken off of Skylarking because it was too contravesial, then it would have been huge. And yes, it was probably there most famous song, but it could have gotten pretty high on billboard if some people didn't find it offensive. I don't find it offensive. It poses good questions. I am a religious guy, but that song made me think. Isn't that exactly what art is? Something that makes us think deeper, not like all of this Christina Perry and Taio Cruz and such.

Also, I cannot see why VH1 had them on the list of top one hit wonders of the 80's for Dear God. They had 10 albums which charted in the USA, and only 2 songs charted in the U.S. Mainstream (ironically, neither being Dear God). They had 6 songs hit other forms of the chart, with Mayor of Simpleton hitting number 1 on the Modern Rock charts. If anything, that was their biggest hit.

Andy Partridge was the singer and songwriter (except on Making Plans for Nigel, that was written by Collin Moulding, the bass-player) and producer of XTC. He was a talent scout for Virgin Records. He played guitar on "She Blinded Me With Science". So there. Also, this should have Shriekback on this. Shriekback is pretty much just XTC minus Andy. Its like Joy Division and New Order. They don't sound all that similar, but they are almost the same bands. And they are both awesome!

One problem though - if you buy each song individually, it would be 70 cents less then the total cost of this essential. Sorry iTunes - next time use a calculator! And, if you want XTC music, just go buy Fossil Fuel for $16.99 - it's all of their singles except for the ones as Dukes of the Stratosphere and Shriekback, and without all of Andy's solo stuff.

There is still some hope for an XTC revival! They broke up after some in-fighting and Andy's stage fright caused them to stop touring. As I understand, however, Colin and Andy have made up and are no longer mad at each other. Andy is still making music. Let's all hope that the rest of XTC joins him.
