Support Podcasting, not Paycasting

Although the host is a bit egocentric, I previously listened to this podcast regularly because of the high quality a cappella music Joey would typically play. I must, however, voice concern over the show's decision to charge $5 a month. The beauty of podcasting is that it is a medium that values the free exchange of ideas and content. By the people and for the people. With the $60 per year subscription price, you could buy sixty a cappella tunes on itunes, and have them forever. Send paycasters the message and unsubscribe!

Clearing up misconceptions

I am a huge fan of the show, and to respond to the other negative posts, the costs $2 an episode for the "full time" version ("part time" is free but you only get 60 second clips of the songs for copyright reasons). When you subscribe to full time you get chapter markers, so you can skip the talking if you don't like it. $2 for 5 songs is not a bad deal. You can't buy a CD with 15 a cappella tracks on it for $6 anywhere. The music he posts is great, always trying to keep a variety of things, and he also does road trips ending in vodcasts of groups performing (that are free) and interviews of great groups. It's more than worth the $2 for the full thing.

Used to Love It!

This one became a case of the Ego that stole the podcast. Truly sad as the show was excellent, I was even considering paying the (really pretty high fee) $60 but then the rambling talk about how great the show is and how much TIME and ENERGY the host puts into it that he should be paid for it... Well that sealed the deal for me. As a podcaster myself I say that's a terrible attitude to take with your audience. You do it because you want to, not because you are gifting people anything.
