Acappella U - Ep. 53 - 11/18/09 | Now that he's gotten the global economy back on track, Joey hath returned, so stop worrying your pretty little heads about weather he was doing hard labor in a gulag, was dead, etc. . It's the most wonderful time of the year, with the fall semester in full swing on college campuses everywhere, including Acappella U. In fact, we have a big announcement - the first scholarly work in the history of the University. More of a discovery really. We also 'discover' Mouth Off, a REAL a cappella podcast. Join us for some Capri Suns, spiral notebook party invites and a cappella tunes. Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 49 - 5/2/08 | This is about as normal an Episode of Acappella U as you're likely to find - great music, listener mail, inane commentary, everything that makes the show great and turned Joey into a celebrity (yeah right), and not a drop more. Next week we'll be hanging out in NYC for Episode 5-oh and the ICCA Finals, but for now much on some Rambler Bits dipped in Cream of Testimony. "Take On Me" (Ah-Ha / SOU Dulcet)* "Brighter Than Sunshine" (Aqualung / U of R Midnight Ramblers)* "How to Save a Life (The Fray / Midnight Ramblers)* "Breathe Me" (Sia / Stanford Testimony) "I'm Not Going Down" (Jason Gray / Testimony) * Available for download on acaTunes | 5/4/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 48 - 4/17/08 | Live from Costa Rica. . . . it's Acappella U! Even though Joey's traveling abroad we've got some brand new a cappella hotness for you - specifiacall a few tracks from the smokin' new release out of U Penn's Off the Beat! Here's what we have tee'd up: "Anna Molly" (Incubus / Off the Beat) "Mercy on Me" (Christina Aguilera / Off the Beat) "Sister Golden Hair" (America / Rochester Yellowjackets) "Make Me Your Girl" (Brian McKnight / CSUN Acasoloa) "Drive" (Incubus / UCB Artists in Resonance) "The Kill" (30 Seconds to Mars / Off the Beat) | 4/20/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 47 - 3/28/08 | Wow. So this took a while, but FINALLY our On The Rocks premiere episode is finished! See, originally this was supposed to be OTR AND Divisi, but then the Divisi stuff wasn't finished yet and. . . well, you get the picture. The point is, Pete Hollens et. al. have put together a great CD. We plug in some Appalachian State a cappella to fill the gaping hole left by Divisi (is 'gaping hole' politically correct??) and talk about our new show, Acappella U HD. | 3/28/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 46 - 2/25/08 | The votes are in and, well, you won't be rid of me so easily. Mwahahahaha! It turns out that many of you enjoy, and dare I say look forward to my episodily commentaries. But as usual, I am willing to bow to your wishes and give everybody everything they want. . . . sort of. Midwestern a cappella occupies the first two slots this week, again this is due to student whining suggestions. Oh, and FSU's All Night Yahtzee returns to the U, replete with ICCA Quarterfinals victory garb. Huzzah! "Mama's Room" (Under the Influence of Giants / Wash U After Dark) "Life Is A HIghway" (Rascal Flatts / Wisconsin Madison) "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" (Rufus Waintright / All-Night Yahtzee) "Such Great Heights" (the Postal Service / All-Night Yahtzee) "Sun On Moon" (James Taylor / NYU NHarmonics) | 2/26/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 45 - 1/30/08 | By (apparently) popular demand, we're trying out a new condensed (read: no talking) show format. The last few reviews on iTunes have been un-erringly critical of my yip-yapping, so we'll see how this goes over - after all, the audience is always right. Tell us what you think, and maybe shoot us a nice review over on iTunes - we need the love! Blurry (Puddle of Mudd / Chordials) Ghost (Indigo Girls / Yale Mixed Company) Walk the Walk (Poe / Virginia Sil'hooettes) God Is A DJ (Pink / Sil'hooettes) 24 (Jem / Maryland Faux Paz) | 1/30/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 44 - 1/21/08 | We know, it's actually been less than a month, buy if our new, er, supporters have their way we'll be delivering the goods a lot more often. Auditorily scope the new Oregon hotness, aka OSU Outspoken. Mix in some Cornell and you've got a hell of an a cappella cocktail, just remember to Sing Responsibly. OK that was lame, but it's like, 14 degrees out, and our brains are frozen. "Jesus Walks" (Kanye West / OSU Outspoken) "Photograph" (Nickelback / Cornell Chordials) "Free Fallin'" (Tom Petty / Smith Smithereens) "Eli the Barrow Boy" (The Decemberists / UMBC Mama's Boys) "Float On" (Modest Mouse / OSU Outspoken) | 1/21/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 42 - 8/27/2007 | 'Back to school, back to school, to prove to dad that I'm not a fool.' Ah, the end of summer begets a new school year bedecked with $140 backpacks, a cornucopia of halter tops, and 'great for dorm room' crap from Target. And who better to put teh dopest a cappella licks to your otherwise run-of-the-mill BTS experience than Acappella U?? That's what I thought. Oh, and please watch Flight of the Conhords as soon as humanly possible. Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 39 - 5/30/2007 | In true collegiate fashion, we're cramming to get that thesis done by the deadline. We haven't come up with a topic yet, and it's due Friday, but we're sure something will come to us if we just watch a little bit more of the History Channel. This go-round we bring you some quality, mid-major a cappella, music that DOSEN'T make you wonder if it is, indeed, actually made entirely by singers. This is the bread and butter of collegiate a cappella, the backbone if you will, the sort of salt-of-the-earth, middle-class a cappella that this university was built on. Well, not really, but that sounded good, right? I will translate. . . no, no, it's not cultural appreciation day here at Acappella University, nor is it Spanish 201. It's just my hangover from a week spent south of the border, down Mexico way. Hey - I bet I could write a song about that. I hope ya'll liked Matt Bolling as a substitute prof, 'cause you're going to get another healthy dose of him for EP. 38. Matt, a Va Tech alumni, will be playing some tracks next time from For Today We Are All Hokies: An A Cappella Tribute, which is a double CD fundraiser that's available on acatunes. Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 28 - 11/28/2006 | So, to make a long story short, we had a blast at the Boston University Night of A Cappella - not just because we got to see a benefit concert featuring NINE groups, but because we realized that Boston is only 38 seconds away from Rochester. Oh, and we also got to see the longest beer pong table in New England. Check out some freshness from BU, for your a cappella edification. "Everything You Want" (Vertical Horizon / BU Treblemakers) "Ahava Bli Sikui" (Sarit Hadad / BU Kol Echad) "Head Over Feet" (Alanis Moirisette / BU Terpsichore) "Baba O'Riley" (The Who / BU Dear Abbeys) "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" (Elton John / BU Dear Abbeys) | 11/27/06 | Free | View In iTunes |

Acappella U (Part-Time) - Ep. 25 - 10/10/2006 | What a weekend - Ithaca NY is one kuh-razy place, and the Acappella U team wound up passed out in a strange basement with strangers all around us, but we still managed to make it home in time to get this filthily good episode up on the internet-waves (that's actual physiks). We had a blast meeting the Amalgamates and Ithacappella, taping the concert, and throwing people out of the party house when she could house no more. All in all we learned three things - 1) That guy with the eyebrow ring is pretty sweet (at singing). So's the black guy. And the really skinny guy.* 2) Joey is a very streaky beer pong player 3) Rymachine needs to learn to keep his hands off the talent Oh, and 'Zombie' from Baggage Claim will be on BOCA 2007 - we're calling it. Here's the rep-uh-toire 'Island In the Sun' (Weezer/MIT Logs) 'Zombie' (Cranberries/Tufts Amalgamates) 'Pain' (Jimmy Eat World/Tufts Amalgamates) 'I Believe' (Unk./Ithacappella) 'Hard to Handle' (The Black Crowes/Ithacapella) *This statement applies not only to Ithacappella, but to most (>85%) of all collegiate a cappella groups. Acappella U - Ep. 20 - 08/09/2006 | The fall semster is approaching fast for the University and its time to pick some electives! In this episode students will attend Classical A Cappella 101, Barbershop 111, and still have time for some contempory songs between classes. In addition, the show again features some creative elements (which no one has seemed to notice) as it did in Episode 19 (hint - check out the Creep Intro from that show) So, if you know what I'm talking about and want to prove me wrong or you just want to submit a comment, write an email to acappellau@mac.com or voice your opinion on the Student Body Call In Line (949) 273-0923. Keep up the suggestions for 21 shots and check out the new forum and picture pages at www.acappellau.com. Class is about to begin so come on in and have a listen... Customer Reviews
Support Podcasting, not Paycasting
Although the host is a bit egocentric, I previously listened to this podcast regularly because of the high quality a cappella music Joey would typically play. I must, however, voice concern over the show's decision to charge $5 a month. The beauty of podcasting is that it is a medium that values the free exchange of ideas and content. By the people and for the people. With the $60 per year subscription price, you could buy sixty a cappella tunes on itunes, and have them forever. Send paycasters the message and unsubscribe!
Clearing up misconceptions
I am a huge fan of the show, and to respond to the other negative posts, the costs $2 an episode for the "full time" version ("part time" is free but you only get 60 second clips of the songs for copyright reasons). When you subscribe to full time you get chapter markers, so you can skip the talking if you don't like it. $2 for 5 songs is not a bad deal. You can't buy a CD with 15 a cappella tracks on it for $6 anywhere. The music he posts is great, always trying to keep a variety of things, and he also does road trips ending in vodcasts of groups performing (that are free) and interviews of great groups. It's more than worth the $2 for the full thing.
Used to Love It!
This one became a case of the Ego that stole the podcast. Truly sad as the show was excellent, I was even considering paying the (really pretty high fee) $60 but then the rambling talk about how great the show is and how much TIME and ENERGY the host puts into it that he should be paid for it... Well that sealed the deal for me. As a podcaster myself I say that's a terrible attitude to take with your audience. You do it because you want to, not because you are gifting people anything.
