ExplicitAlbany Poets Podcast 63 - Nitty Gritty Slam - September 6, 2011 | On September 6, 2011 Albany Poets, Urban Guerilla Theatre, and the Frequency North Reading Series teamed up for the first Nitty Gritty Slam at Valentines. The show started with an open mic hosted by Mojavi with poets Poetyc Vyzonz, Stephen Leslie, Elizag, Michelle Bula, Bless, and Dan Rain all sharing their work. Then slammaster Dain Brammage took the mic and the (8-4-2) slam began with Algorhythm, Jessica Layton, Tammy Loez, Emily Epstein, Shannon Shoemaker, Kevein Peterson, Dan Wilcox, and Illiptical. Veteran poet Miriam Axel-Lute acted as the "sacrificial poet" for the evening to get the judges warmed up. Paddy, a local singer/songwriter, was hit by a drunk driver in late March and Albany's poets and musicians all got together to help raise money for her medical expenses. Dain Brammage was the featured poet of the evening and as an added bonus the winner of the Lark Tavern Singer Songwriter Contest, Matt Durfee also performed. ...they keep going and going and... AlbanyPoets.com never seems to lose a step. Staying so completely ahead of the game and truly the frontrunners for "hardest working group in the capital district supporting the arts", AlbanyPoets president Thom Francis once again proves himself a man of his word. It seems only a few days ago I had talked to him and he was mentioning about Podcasting. And now, here it is. It's free and definately worth the download. Keep up the great work guys.
