AMA Live #7 (Duane Flock) | Duane was born and grew up in the L.A. area in a house full of music. His father (Warren Flock) played professional country music with bands and studios for years while his mother would also sing at the same venues. Getting his first guitar at age 10, he practiced mostly rock. Playing by ear, and learning riffs from records and friends, he did like most young dreamers and started a band or two during High School. Beatles, Cream, Hendrix, Steely Dan, Robin Trower, Led Zepplin, Uriah Heep, among a long list of others were some influences back then. After a tour of duty in the Army, Duane played in a few rock groups around the Houston Texas area covering ZZTop , Allman Bros., Skynard, and a few more Southern Rock groups. Duane moved back to California where he met his current wife of 30yrs. During this family time Duane played mostly for the love of music and to keep on top of the current trends. Playing at parties and gatherings and occasionally helping out friends at gigs. Learning to play new instruments as well as doing some writing was also how a lot of his time was spent during those years. Using a simple Yamaha AW16g “studio in a box”, Duane created some top notch tunes. In his mid to late forties, Duane played bass and sang for several local cover bands keeping that sharp edge and smart style working. Now in his early fifties, with the kids grown, it’s time to get back out there and just do what feels good. Do some live gigs and introduce to the world some great new original tunes. …………“It’s time to show ‘em what I’ve got”. I’ve been told I sound a bit like “Clapton with Steely Dan tendencies”. My current taste in listening music is Fusion, Jazz-Rock, Alternative, & Indie. I use mostly Carvin Guitars, Fender Deluxe amp, Ken Smith 5-str Bass, Ampeg amp, Gibson Mandolin, Boss GT-3 processor, is some of my favorite stuff.
