Ear Fun
Weekend America is not the deepest thing on public radio (i.e. this is NOT All Things Considered or This American Life and certainly not Democracy Now!) but it is well-produced, well-hosted, well-reported, and well-edited. If your choice is a couple of hours of CNN (or any quantity of Fox News) or MTV or VH1, Weekend America will have a far more positive effect on your brain cell count. And you won't be depressed by it (even though reality these days should be depressing...)
Great Weekend Listening, America!
Both great hosts and show. Interesting, in-depth stories that provide a better understanding of news and people today. A great complement to the week's news and a smart way to gain some perspective. I'm glad to hear Bill Radke back on the radio/Itunes since his very intelligent and witty show, Rewind, ended. Weekend America displays similar excellence, albeit with a more serious format.
Off-the-beaten-path stories
There are so many high-quality shows on pubic radio that it's often easy to overlook the great ones. Weekend America hits stories at a unique angle, often exposing the humor of a "hard news" piece or the hidden depth of what seems at first like fluff. The rountable discussion in each episode is a must-hear summary of the weeks events.
