AutoCAD® Map 3D and the CAD-to-GIS Workflow | Here's the scenario: Your boss asks you to incorporate GIS data into your design drawings. You're a CAD expert but a GIS novice. Where do you start? How do you get both sets of data to work for you and not against you? Attend this session to see a typical CAD-to-GIS workflow using AutoCAD Map 3D. | 3/8/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Preparing AutoCAD® Drawings for GIS—A Step-By-Step Process for Implementation | In this session, you'll see real data being prepared for GIS through an implementation process that we'll outline step-by-step. One of the common tasks that many organizations face is taking existing AutoCAD drawings and preparing them for use as GIS data. Whether you are using AutoCAD Map 3D as your main GIS software or your files are being converted to other data stores, the files need to be clean. Additionally, if you need to transform the coordinate system, add object data, create links, or create relationships among your objects, the best place to do that is within AutoCAD Map. Learn to take advantage of your most valuable resource—the AutoCAD users in your organization! | 3/8/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Bridging the GIS and CAD Gap: Connecting Directly with Feature Data Object (FDO) Providers | Typically, state and local government agencies and private engineering firms consist of an engineering department responsible for capturing infrastructure data, and a GIS department to manage the information. Engineers use the precision of CAD as their preferred tool for creating data, whereas the GIS analyst will typically use GIS software from ESRI to analyze and present the data through maps. Both departments are working with the same data, but essentially using different tools with different formats. This creates a virtual gap in overall workflow and productivity. Join this session to learn how CAD users can improve collaboration among departments by being able to natively access GIS data in ESRI SHP format and ArcSDE all from within AutoCAD Map 3D using the new FDO technology. Access, analyze, and distribute data more effectively with the ability to read and write to various GIS formats natively all from your own CAD environment! | 3/17/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

From CAD Data to Spatial Databases with AutoCAD® Map 3D | With AutoCAD Map 3D, users have tools at their disposal to move beyond the DWG file format and ensure that valuable data can be easily managed and integrated into the broader Information Technology (IT) landscape. The purpose of this class is to introduce traditional CAD users to a new way of working and managing CAD-based information by utilizing a relational database management system (RDBMS). Learn about the benefits of an RDBMS, database options, the processes involved in moving CAD data stored in DWG to a spatial database, and database-driven workflows that support the integration of CAD and GIS. | 4/7/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Utilizing Satellite and Aerial Imagery Data in AutoCAD® Map 3D and Autodesk MapGuide® | The latest versions of AutoCAD Map 3D and Autodesk MapGuide make accessing, utilizing, and sharing earth imagery and other spatial data easier than ever. We'll discuss ways to access and work with both locally stored imagery data and web services like WMS and third-party web plug-ins. Sources of both government-supplied and premium data in today's marketplace will be explored. We'll also demonstrate how to easily serve up imagery from Map 3D to your organization using MapGuide. | 4/14/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

AutoCAD® Map 3D for Improving Environmental Engineering | Today, most environmental consulting organizations employ both CAD and GIS technologies to create and analyze spatial data for watershed planning, water resource management, habitat conservation, and wetland restoration. The ability to integrate the two technologies maximizes the organization's investment in each without compromising productivity and data integrity. The tools for streamlining the input of field data, its built-in GIS functionality, and inherent dynamic nature are making AutoCAD Map 3D a valuable tool for improving collaboration among environmental engineers, designers, and drafters, as well as GIS analysts using ESRI software. In this session, we'll learn how to improve existing workflow within environmental consulting firms by leveraging online environmental GIS data to improve initial site assessment, perform environmental impact analysis, and distribute data more effectively. We'll also examine typical real-world workflows using both Autodesk and ESRI software products for information analysis and distribution. | 4/21/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Designing and Managing Electric Utility Assets More Effectively with Autodesk® Topobase™ | Learn how to work with the new Autodesk Topobase Electric application. Topobase Electric is a vertical application based on the Topobase framework (Topobase Client, Topobase Web, and Topobase Administrator). The goal of this vertical application is to provide functions for the management and the analysis of an electrical distribution and transmission network. | 4/28/08 | Free | View In iTunes |

Sharing Drawings Using AutoCAD® Map 3D: A Step-By-Step Process for Implementation | Would you like to share AutoCAD drawings among the CAD users at your organization? (I'm not talking about Xref files!) Are your drawings so large that you can go get a cup of coffee while the file is opening? The purpose of this session is to help you establish a specific process for editing and working with drawing files where multiple users need access and where the files are large and difficult to manipulate. This session will also include a live workflow demonstration. | 5/5/08 | Free | View In iTunes |
