2011 ABCP YEAR-IN-REVIEW | It seems like just last year we didn't put our year-end show up until several days after the year was over! And it was! And now it is again! And again it shall be next year! But from now on, we shall have an always-valid excuse for being late with anything and everything, which is our new baby! As always with these year-end shows, we've got a list of nominee-nominees ... that is to sa, things we thought were among the best the year had to offer and were deserving of mention. Of these lists, we've narrowed down each category to five or so nominees, about which we talk at some length, and then from those nominees we pick winners. Some were tough to narrow down (we could have had 10 writer nominees easily) and some were tough to pick enough nominees from to fill out a segment (rough year for compelling villains overall) but here you go. We talk a little bit about the last couple weeks of books, recap the best and not-so-best of what we saw at SDCC, AND do our usual show about this week's books! We saw the Green Lantern movie (and didn't pay for it, thanks to what happened when we tried to see the Yu-Gi-Oh movie.) and then we watched the Green Lantern cartoon thing, and we gave a bunch of awards to Power Girl and Batgirl, two of the strongest and most appealing female characters in comics, both of whom we only have a few more months to enjoy in their current incarnations. Crap to not knowing what the hell is going on in X-Men Schism and we break down why the interview format worked well in Guardians of the Galaxy but it's annoying as all hell in Avengers. ABCP Episode #139 | Boy, this is a weird one. And not in an especially memorable way, except that we do break into Bobby Darin's Beyond the Sea partway through. Evie's sick as this, this, this and this this week, and didn't have the energy to both make her list AND do the show, so we did the show just based off of Aaron's list, with Evie never having to exercise her veto power except for the categories where Image's The Mission #4 won stuff, because she hasn't been reading that. But she should be, as should all of you, because it's good, but I don't want to tell you what it's about because that would ruin some of the surprise. Also FF, Catwoman, Strange Adventures and X-Men win, while Green Lantern and Secret Avengers lose in ways that are trite and goofy, respectively. Oh and also, there's a brief technical hiccup where we lost the signal to the studio from our living room. SEE IF YOU CAN SPOT IT. (hint - I replaced the silence with the pokemon battle music, some cats and a gong.) Oh and also also, if I were a betting man, which I am not, which is good because I would lose a lot of money based on how bad I am at cell phone poker, but that's beside the point, I would bet on there not being a show next week as I'm heading to Atlanta on Sunday. I Got Awesomed!
This is a great deviation from other comic book podcasts out there--combining an awards show format for the comics every week (DC and Marvel mostly, so far) in a fun and entertaining opinion podcast. Evie and Aaron are both avid readers and understanders of comics, which is a definite bonus when anyone attempts to tackle a comic book podcast. And, they have intro music and category openers, for God's sake! Which are awesome. They each have their reviews, they have best/worst categories, they have best panels and more. Their conversations, opinions and banter are fun and entertaining, which is terrific when navigating terrible traffic. I'm really pleased to add this one to my comic book podcast list.
Tremendous Fun
This podcast is an enjoyable round-up of the week's comics and it's always, note ALWAYS, funny as hell. Evie and Aaron do a great job of going over whats going on in the comic book world while not taking it too seriously, and they make sure to entertain. Why aren't you listening to this podcast, no go, LISTEN, NOW! This I Command and alll that. Enjoy the Podcast. Oh and Evie and Aaron... Keep up the good work.
