Bears Of The Pretty

Bears In The City is a podcast edited by the lovely and talented [info]cuboz, aka Dominic. It's based out of Sydney, Australia, and covers a wide range of gay (and primarily bear) related topics. It's also hilarious, and keeps me entertained on a regular basis, whether the guys are discussing a gentleman who used to stand at the urinal in a bar and, if he thought a guy was hot, slip his beer mug into the guy's stream and drink it, or discussing Seamus's, um, "illness", at Luna Park. They even entertain me when cutting on famous alien child Bindi Irwin. The guys are of varied backgrounds and statures, but put them together and you get what Jason at BTalk so often refers to as "podcast gold". Dominic is, I think, my favorite. Dominic's a Kiwi by birth, and will say things no one else will. Beneath his joking exterior, though, he seems to be very sensitive to those around him, and it's very apparent that he truly cares about his friends. He also has a honeyed voice, and the accent is, as usual among Aussies and Kiwis, to die for. Craige is, in his words, a 45 year old poof. He is the resident sash bear, but very down to earth for all that. He appears to be the most viciously vociferous Bindi-hater, though he may have to claw for that award with John. He always has something of value to add to the hilarity. John is an airport bear, unless that status has changed; he was looking to change it, or at least his employer. He's the true romantic, which means he's also the most cynical. He's seen it all, and takes regular abuse at his job. Still he seems to be able to keep his sense of humor, and the podcast is better for his snarky commentary. Clinton is the newest addition as a regular to the podcast. He seems to be the one who travels here to the U.S. most often; considering the distance, it seems quite a feat for him to end up here as often as he does. He's got more travel stamina than I do. He's got a VERY sharp tongue that produces some wickedly funny commentary. Any gay man with a scintilla of nasty humor should enjoy his repartee. And then we have the problematic one, Seamus. Seamus is undeniably intelligent, very cute, and often has the best stories to tell. But I have trouble with Seamus, because he sometimes comes across as controlling, elitist, and prejudiced. He's become a muscle cub of sorts, and because of it, he seems, on the podcast at least, to be a bit of a Heather bear. Also, in my opinion, the podcast is best when topics start to follow a stream-of-consciousness flow; the funniest things are said then, but Seamus often interferes with this, insisting on "staying on topic". It is jarring, and brings enjoyment of the podcast to a screeching halt too many times. It's like having sex, and having a great time....and then the phone rings. You don't pick it up, but the machine does, and it's your mother. When Seamus interrupts the flow, it's THAT jarring. I don't think he's a bad guy; I just think he needs to loosen up a bit. Bears In The City is a great podcast, and if you're partial to the Aussie and/or Kiwi accents, I highly recommend it. I've listened to every episode, and now I sometimes put it on when I'm going to bed, because the guys have very soothing voices most of the time, and what better way to drift off to sleep than the deep voice of a bear or two in your ear? Give the guys a shot; I think you'll like 'em.

Brillant and Witty

Very funny group of bears. Crack me up every podcast. Usually have to rewind several times because I am laughing so hard I miss something. Keep up the good work.

Finally writing the funniest guys on the Internet

Bears in the City! I've got one word for you "You crack my sides and wrinkle my face!" (aka Kath Day Knight). You guys are hilarious. My name is Alan Golden. I used to live in Melbourne and very good friends with RoyBear and Phil Webster. A couple of weeks ago, I was chatting with Roy and he mentioned that I should check out your podcast. I hadn't downloaded any podcasts to my iPod so you were the first. Since I was downloading, I might as well get them all, so I did. Please know that Kath and Kim is on cable here in the States so we know about them. Frankly, I started watching them when I lived in Melbourne when the first season began and I've followed them ever since. My partner (ManInSydney on Bear411) and I (DrGoldBear on Bear411 and Bearwww) are rolling on the floor with each podcast. You guys are brilliant. We will be moving back to Oz in a couple of years. We look forward to meeting you all and getting to know you better. My best to you all. Congrats on your time in City to Surf marathon and for quitting the smoking habit. We're proud of you and 'rooting' for you all the way!!! Teeheehee Keep up the GREAT entertainment!!!! Love, Alan and Andy
