Joshua Gordon – Part 2 of 2 – Three questions that will change your business | Joshua Gordon - Part 2 of 2 - Three questions that will change your business (and your life if you aren't careful). 3 Big Questions <---Download the Marketing Awesomeness Guide here. In part two, Josh unpacks the three biggest questions you will ever face. Simple? Maybe. Easy? No. Powerful? YES! I challenge anyone who is running a small business to download this file and fill it out. Let me know what you learn. Beginner or CEO of Facebook, everyone should take the time to slow down and explore these questions. The biggest mistake a business owner can make is skipping over the 'why' and starting with 'how' and 'what'. "People don't buy what you do they buy why you do it." - Simon Sinek “When you start with the idea of making a thing, you’re artificially limiting what you can deliver...Products are realized only as necessary artifacts to address customer needs. What Flickr, Kodak, Apple, and Target all realize is that the experience is the product we deliver, and the only thing that our customers care about.” -Unknown -Derek | 2/3/12 | Free | View In iTunes |

Planet Reuse and Flow. Two awesome companies that call Bizperc home. | Nathan Benjamin and Willow Lundgren are on to something. Merging modern technology with a goal of reusing reclaimed building materials. Planet Reuse is creating an online catalog that connects the salvager with the builder while avoiding the landfill. Make reclaimed material reuse easier and more people will do it. This simple but revolutionary goal drove the founders of PlanetReuse to create a new kind of company in 2008. Frustrated by the time and resources it took to track down salvaged materials for their own commercial projects, they took an entrepreneurial leap to uncover a solution for the building industry as a whole. Initially an internet-based material brokerage, PlanetReuse has evolved into a consulting and brokering company focused on providing the insight, experience and materials its clients need. With a well-defined and efficient process, PlanetReuse expertly matches materials with designers, builders and owners to save projects money, serve LEED efforts and sustain the planet. www.planetreuse.com Listen And stay tuned for my chat with Coty Beasley from a design and branding company called Flow. Your image is the most important factor of your business. Flow's attention to detail helps set you apart from the competition and ensures your message, the right message, resounds clearly with the right audience. " Small business owners struggle with bookkeeping, tax, and financial issues every day. Not only are these things time-consuming, they can be a threat to your security and viability. That's why I became a small business accountant. My 20 years in small business taught me the hard way that staying on top of accounting can make the difference between success and failure. Email - jim@jimaccountant.com - Kansas City Accounting Firm He's my accountant! - Derek More about Life = A simple but profound idea: a better you creates a better world. Or, in other words, LIFE=LIFE. In early 2009, three friends, Kyle and Abigail FitzGerald, and Graham Ripple, met in a Kansas City coffee shop to catch up in the midst of their busy lives. Their conversation soon turned to the difficulty of keeping up with the demands of their full-time jobs, busy personal lives and responsibilities of their small business. They wanted a healthy product that conveniently provided focus and energy without the sugar and calories. Unsatisfied with available products they created the first of the Life Equals products: LIFE= Focus+Energy. As they shared their original formula with friends, they heard story after story of its benefit in their friends' lives. From that initial inspiration, they began crafting products that provide healthy solutions to everyday problems. In that original conversation over coffee, an important question was asked: Could they use this product to somehow help not only those who directly take it, but also the global community at large? That idea just made sense: as your life improves, you can improve the world around you. A better you creates a better world. A few months later, a conversation about the needs of a small orphanage in Mozambique peaked their interest. In addition to clothing, the orphanage needed simple children's multivitamins. As Kyle, Graham and Abby researched the role of supplements in developing countries, they found that multivitamins were necessary but both expensive and largely inaccessible. They created the LIFE=LIFE Project - For every purchase you make, Life Equals will provide an equal amount of children's multivitamins to an undernourished child through our partnership with Vitamin Angels. LIFE=LIFE one vitamin at a time. Out of the idea that a changed world comes from changed individuals, Life Equals was born. Life Equals continues to strive to make the world a better place by empowering our customers to live better lives and participate in the needs of our world. Stephanie Tillman of ikros and The Hope Station – Beatnik Radio | "Just a girl with a story." Lucky for us that story is incredible, inspiring and full of hope. Stephanie walked into the coffee shop a full 30 minutes early for our chat. I thought she must have had our interview time wrong, I was wrong. She showed up a half hour early to do her thing. Handing out T-shirts and a Sharpie for people to write on the shirt with, the unsuspecting folks who just happened to be in the right place at the right time won't soon forget her. Stephanie is a natural engager of people (total strangers in most cases). Stephanie has a way of reaching straight through any guard that you may have up to protect yourself from others. No guard needed here, nothing to be afraid of but maybe getting very real and honest. She is the kind of person who most folks feel instantly at ease with, like you have just met one of your lifelong best friends for the first time. Four or five T-shirts and photographs later, we started our chat. We learn the why, how and what behind Stephanie, the T-shirts and the Sharpie. Plenty of great advice. Plenty of inspiring words. One amazing story. Thanks Stephanie! Listen to our chat on Beatnik Radio Stephanie can be found at http://www.facebook.com/Thehopestation | 10/31/11 | Free | View In iTunes |

About Time!!!
There's so many exciting businesses developing in KC. It's great to finally have a podcast highlighting them. Keep 'em coming Derek
Get inspired, get informed, get Beatnik
Derek has a great skill of bringing in amazing folks doing amazing things coupled with the ability to draw out great dialogue. He is obviously well prepared and an inspired gentleman himself. The live coffee shop feel gives it a nice ambiance as if to remind you these are real people, doing great things. Bravo Derek.
Great Show about Conveniently Natural
I'm probably too late to be in the running for the drawing, but I'm posting the review, anyway! I very much enjoyed learning more about CN. We've used them several times now and always find some new favorite in our weekly order. Thank you for interviewing them and making it available for all of us to listen.
I do have one request. Like Kim and Brian, I have kids, and they were continually in and out during the time I was listening to this podcast. I couldn't find a way to pause the recording. The only option I could find was to stop it, and then start again from the beginning. I couldn't even find a fast forward to skip ahead option.
Is it possible for you to insert a "pause" button in the podcast somewhere? Or is this an Apple issue? Or was it there all along and I just didn't see it?
Thanks again,
