Quite Simply, The Best
I just said it in the title.
The wonderful convergence of all things cool and funny
Where do Tim Heidecker, Yo La Tengo, Ted Leo, Conan O’Brien, and Robert Pollard get together for dinner each Tuesday night? I don’t know the answer to that question. Upon whom was the original Fonzie based? Pat Sajak’s brother…salt of the earth? Is the CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch as creepy as you’d expect him to be? If something is entirely different than anything you’ve ever heard before are you willing to listen to it? This radio show is my favorite thing in the entire world. Now it is in podcast form.
Spectacular!
If you listened to this show for a few minutes, you might think it was a typical, mildly rambling community radio talk show. Our genial host Tom Scharpling gives pleasant counsel to the young people and the sort of crackpots who'd call in to a freeform radio talk show. Then the bomb hits. A seemingly normal interview will start to get stranger and stranger, until a man calling himself The Gorch is claiming to be the inspiration for the Fonz, and the creator of a regional 1960s rock hit called "Chain Fight Tonight." These amazing character interviews are unique in audio comedy, and they are AMAZING. Conan O'Brien says The Best Show is the only comedy on his iPod. If that means something to you, subscribe now.
