In October 1947, the House Un-American Activities Committee opened its hearing into Communist influence in the movie business and promptly denounced 19 prominent directors, producers, screenwriters, and actors as enemies of the state. One of them was Hollywood screenwriter Gordon Kahn, whose films include All Quiet on the Western Front and The African Queen. In this six-part personal history of the Hollywood Blacklist, Gordon Kahn's son, Morning Stories producer Tony Kahn, tells the story of his father's 15 years of persecution and the fear that followed him, his family, and thousands of other Americans for being accused of having the wrong political ideas.

Personal and eloquent story of
a dark time in American history. Big star cast. Worthwhile, informative, and thought provoking.
Historical Importance Here
After hearing these 6 podcast episodes of the travesty of what occurred to Mr. Kahn and his family during the Cold War era, it brought to my mind the horrors inflicted, in the past, during the Salem Witch Trials... The correlations of these two historical events are so chillingly similar, we can only ask ourselves "How did we 'repeat' the ills of the past, when we knew of our historical past so well?"
On a side note, I couldn't help but wonder why Mr. Tony Kahn's production of "Morning Stories" was taken off air (by the way, it was through listening to a recent 2010 episode of "This American Life" which featured a brief excerpt of a Story Corps project that I found the WONDERFULLY AMAZING "Morning Stories" podcast placed into iTunes a few years ago)... and yet, suspiciously "Morning Stories" was taken off air not very much after the release of these 6 podcast episodes... I wonder if there is any correlation between these two events?
