The Way of Boys: Raising Healthy Boys in a Challenging and Complex World - Dec 16,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman and Dr. Anthony Rao as they discuss his book The Way of Boys: Raising Healthy Boys in a Challenging and Complex World. Rao, a psychologist who has worked with young boys for two decades at Harvard Medical School as well as in private practice, claims that very young boys are being misdiagnosed with disorders such as ADHD and Asperger's and are often unnecessarily treated with medications that, he believes, should be a last resort (some boys, he notes, have even been thrown out of preschool for unruly behavior). With writer Seaton, Rao argues that many young boys who grab, kick, fidget, act out in school or refuse to make eye contact are simply being true to their brain development and hardwiring; in the vast majority of cases, Rao claims, these behaviors are healthy and normal, and shouldn't require medical intervention. The authors explain that boys do best with tactile, hands-on learning and more physical movement than most schools provide. Rather than rush to label and diagnose, Rao recommends a wait-and-see approach, noting that most behavior problems are temporary developmental glitches (with the exception of autism, which benefits from early intervention). Rao offers strategies parents can employ to help their youngsters learn to communicate, socialize and deal with anger and other issues. Though a bit heavy on the case studies, Rao's text is a valuable resource for readers determining whether to seek a medical diagnosis and a prescription or opt for a behavioral plan and a strong dose of patience. | 12/15/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Medium Wayne Isaacs - Dec 05,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she welsomes psychic medium Wayne Issacs to the show from the UK! Even as a child Wayne knew he was different from other children. From an early age he was aware of seeing people before him that others could not see. It was common for him to hear his name being called by someone unseen, and also common for him to be aware of events before they actually happened. To him, all this was perfectly normal. Born in Harrow, Middlesex, London, much of Wayne’s early childhood was the same as any other. All through his early school years and into teenage hood the most amazing paranormal events happened to, and around, Wayne. When he was 23 years old he was invited by a friend to attend a local Spiritualist church to observe a Medium work, and from the minute he set foot inside the door he knew this was what he wanted to do with his life, and what was expected of him. This is now the dream he wants to happen to be one of the country’s most well-known and respected Psychic Mediums. Over the years that followed, Wayne took every opportunity to develop and demonstrate his mediumistic ability by joining a psychic circle and local church endeavouring to reunite relatives with their departed loved ones. He is always striving to push the boundaries of his work, wanting each message from the other side to be as perfect as possible to prove, beyond doubt that our spirits are eternal and are able to communicate with us. | 12/5/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Affordability Factor - Dec 04,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman and Dr. Nathaniel J. Williams as they discuss his book The Affordability Factor. The Affordability Factor: The 4Cs of Change a self-help tool developed by Dr. Nathaniel J. Williams describes the importance of releasing oneself from the impactful challenging moment in life that all people experience and living in the fullness of faith and fortitude by transforming ones concepts, communications, collaborations, and consequences (4Cs). Additionally, The Affordability Factor highlights the need to differentiate between the roles of faith and fortitude while understanding the importance of both to be omnipresent in our lives. Harriet Tubman once said I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves. The Affordability Factor: The 4Cs of Change is built on the premise that we could afford so much more if we only realized the concepts, communication, collaborations and consequences which enslave us to a less than desirable existence and outcomes. Most individuals do not realize the significance of challenging (and generally negative) events that occur in their lives. Such events cause individuals to fixate on certain themes, exerting a lasting impact on their concepts, communications, and collaborations. Close to the Bone: Life-Threatening Illness As a Soul Journey - Dec 03,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she welcome author Jean Shinoda Bolen to the show to discuss her memoir Close to the Bone: Life-Threatening Illness As a Soul Journey. This is a book for any person who is living with a life-threatening illness and for anyone who is caring for and/or loves a person who is ill. Bolen affirms that the price of going into the scary places, of feeling like a piece of green meat on a hook, is high, but worth it. We have no choice. We will all face health crises--our own and others. We can try to bury our heads in the sand. Or we can travel to the underworld. We can probe. We can listen. We can connect to what we know in our bones. In the ten years since the original publication of Close to the Bone, Jean Bolen has continued to explore the impact and the possibilities for finding purpose that confronting a serious illness and possible death present us. This expanded edition includes a new section about forming circles in the time of crises, plus more stories that support the process of hope and the desire to live and change as well as a very personal passage in which Dr. Bolen tells the story of the death of her son. This book is meant to help and heal, to make people less afraid, and to encourage them to trust the wisdom they have inside--what they know in their bones. | 12/2/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The 48 Laws of Power: Part 4 - Dec 02,2009 | Listen to the entire series live 11/27/09 thru 12/8/09 or listen archived. Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this piercing work distills three thousand years of the history of power in to forty-eight well explicated laws. As attention--grabbing in its design as it is in its content, this bold volume outlines the laws of power in their unvarnished essence, synthesizing the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun-tzu, Carl von Clausewitz, and other great thinkers. Some laws teach the need for prudence ("Law 1: Never Outshine the Master"), the virtue of stealth ("Law 3: Conceal Your Intentions"), and many demand the total absence of mercy ("Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally"), but like it or not, all have applications in real life. Illustrated through the tactics of Queen Elizabeth I, Henry Kissinger, P. T. Barnum, and other famous figures who have wielded--or been victimized by--power, these laws will fascinate any reader interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control. | 12/2/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

A Practical Guide to Autism: What Every Parent, Family Member, and Teacher Needs to Know - Nov 25,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman and Dr. Fred R. Volkmar as they discuss Autism and his book A Practical Guide to Autism: What Every Parent, Family Member, and Teacher Needs to Know. Autism is in the public spotlight now more than ever as new research and information appears almost daily. Although in many ways this is a positive development it also presents challenges to families and practitioners who want to keep up with the latest developments and are left to sift through new information by themselves to see what is credible and relevant for them. Each of us needs a personal research assistant who can determine which information we need to pay attention to and let us know how it might affect our daily work and the children we are living with or serve. Since we each don’t have our own research assistants on staff, I am delighted to recommend this wonderful book by Fred Volkmar and Lisa Wiesner. Both of these talented professional leaders have combined their scientific skills and understanding of the field with great practical experience and ideas about how research can be translated into clinical practice. The result is a book that provides the best and most comprehensive information about recent scientific developments and a splendid practical guide for how they are being implemented and what we are learning in the process. The issues are presented in all of their complexity but translated into language that is clear, direct, and easy to follow. The format also lends itself to understanding the complex issues and their implications through excellent charts, question and answer sections, and chapters that vary from describing diagnostic issues to stating very specifically how to expand and evaluate the services one is receiving. The comprehensive references and lists of additional resources also add greatly to the overall package. | 11/24/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Why Suicide?: Answers to 200 of the Most Frequently Asked Questions about Suicide - Nov 22,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews Eric Marcus once again to discuss his newly revised book Why Suicide?: Answers to 200 of the Most Frequently Asked Questions about Suicide. Marcus (Is It a Choice?: Answers to 300 of the Most Frequently Asked Questions About Gays and Lesbians, LJ 6/1/93), who lost his own father to suicide at age 12, here seeks to demystify the enigma of suicide. He uses a question-and-answer format, with related questions grouped into chapters. The well-chosen selection of questions range from "Does everyone have thoughts of suicide?" to "What are the arguments against legalizing doctor-assisted suicide?" His responses reflect not only a knowledgeable and well-informed consideration of suicidology but also empathetic treatment. The typical response aims to educate by giving factual information and/or practical advice as well as to console by providing personal stories from suicide survivors. An appendix of resources includes a directory of suicide/crisis hotlines. While other books, such as George Howe Colt's The Enigma of Suicide (LJ 4/15/91), may provide a broader and more in-depth discussion of suicide as a phenomenon, Why Suicide? focuses primarily on consoling survivors and dispelling myths. A marvelous addition to suicidology collections as well as a solid choice for bibliotherapy; given the inexpensive price, it should find a place in every public or private library collection. | 11/21/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Great Music: Seal - Nov 14,2009 | Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel (born 19 February 1963) in Paddington, London, United Kingdom is an English, ethnically Nigerian soul singer and songwriter. His name Olusegun means "God is victorious". Known professionally by his first name, Seal is known for his numerous international hits and his marriage to German model Heidi Klum. The son of a Nigerian father and a Brazilian mother, he was adopted because his parents were unable to support him financially. He was raised in Paddington, a district of the City of Westminster in inner London. He received a two-year diploma, or associates degree, in architecture and worked in various jobs in the London area. Seal’s facial scars are the result of the condition discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), a condition where the immune cells attack various body tissues. Seal has revealed in interviews that he was afflicted with this syndrome as a teen; DLE usually affects young people. Intense inflammation develops in the skin, particularly in sun-exposed areas, and if not treated aggressively with sun protection and anti-inflammatory medicines, scarring can result. After a short time singing in local clubs and bars, in the 1980s he joined Push, a British funk band, and toured with them in Japan. In Asia, he joined a blues band in Thailand for a while before separating from the group and journeying throughout India on his own. Seal returned to England, sleeping on the couch of friend Julian Bunster, then a model. He sometimes asked him "Do I sing well?" To which he often met the response that he sang better than most current artists. His break came when he met the producer Adamski. He was given the lyrics of the song "Killer", which was a huge hit in 1990. | 11/14/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: Gladys Knight & The Pips - Nov 10,2009 | Gladys Knight & the Pips were an R&B/soul musical act from Atlanta, Georgia, active from 1953 to 1989. The group was best known for their string of hit singles from 1967 to 1975, including "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" (1967) and "Midnight Train to Georgia" (1973). The longest-lived incarnation of the act featured Gladys Knight on lead vocals, with The Pips, who included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and their cousins Edward Patten and William Guest, as backup singers. Gladys Knight was born May 28, 1944 in the state of Alabama. At the age of seven in 1952, she won Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour television show contest. The following year, she, her brother Bubba, sister Brenda, and their cousins William and Eleanor Guest started a singing group called "The Pips" (named after another cousin, James "Pip" Woods). The Pips began to perform and tour, eventually replacing Brenda Knight and Eleanor Guest with cousins Langston George and Edward Patten in 1959. The Pips scored their first hit in 1961 with "Every Beat of My Heart", a cover of a Hank Ballard & The Midnighters song. The group had recorded the song for a friend in Atlanta, who promptly sold the master to Vee-Jay Records and cut the group out of the record's profits. The Pips recorded a second version of "Every Beat" with Bobby Robinson as the producer, and the song became a #1 R&B and #6 pop hit. Shortly afterwards, Langston George left the group, and the remaining members continued as a quartet, now billed as Gladys Knight & the Pips. Typically, most of the act's recordings featured Knight's contralto on lead vocals and the three male members of the group, usually referred to as "The Pips" by themselves, providing characteristic background vocals. After a second Vee-Jay hit, "Letter Full of Tears", in 1962, Knight quit the group to start a family with husband James Newman. | 11/9/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The A.D.D. impacted person is part of the evolutionary process of humanity. It is time to acknowledge that these people have many gifts and insights that can help us move more clearly into the 21st century. They possess a kind of intelligence that allows them to go where we have never gone before. What is our reaction? We complain that they are inconvenient - that they do not "fit in the box." We often decide that the best option is to medicate and try to forget them. Well, change is long over due…and many of our institutions and paradigms will need to shift in the process. That, too, is long overdue. Managing the Gift provides an opportunity to truly understand this thing we call A.D.D. and how to utilize the gifts that accompany it. | 11/6/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

However, he ended up recording his albums for Mercury, released his first album, Brian McKnight, in 1992. He went on to release three more albums for Mercury records before moving to Motown Records. Path To The Soul With Dr. Ashok Bedi, M.D. - Nov 05,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman and Dr. Ashok Bedi, M.D. as they discuss his ground-breaking book Path To The Soul: The Union of Eastern and Western Wisdom to Heal Your Body, Mind and Soul. Bedi, a Wisconsin-based psychiatrist and Jungian psychoanalyst, offers a Hindu spin on therapy, challenging readers to rethink childhood conflict and marital strife in terms of karma and dharma. Bedi's discussion of chakrasAthe seven energy centers said to exist in each personAillustrates the strengths and weaknesses of his approach. The first chakra, located in the perineum and ruled by the god Ganesha, governs people's sense of emotional security. For example, Paul, a client of Bedi's, has unstable romantic relationships. Bedi traces his problems to the first chakra, and suggests that Paul's recovery necessarily involves "correcting imbalances" among his chakras. That's an intriguing theory, but Bedi is so vague and his prose so confusing ("When he first came to me, Paul was stuck in the pignali nada of the root chakra, which manifested as untempered masculine enterprise") that readers may never quite understand just what the chakra has to do with their love lives, or what they should do about it. Meditate on the chakra? Draw a picture of the chakra? Pray about the chakra? When Bedi does give straightforward guidance, it is banal: when trying to overcome problems in relationships, for example, people should "identify" the qualities in others that they like and dislike. Bedi's claim that Hindu spiritual disciplines can augment traditional therapy is suggestive, but readers will have to go elsewhere to deduce the mechanics of integrating the two. Drawing from Hindu and Christian spiritual wisdom, medical science, psychiatric technique, and over twenty-five years of clinical experience, Dr. Ashok Bedi demonstrates the clear link between psychological disease and our intrinsic hunger for spiritual union. Each symptom is seen as a crucial whisper from the soul. | 11/4/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: INXS - Nov 01,2009 | INXS was a great band! INXS are an Australian rock/pop band, who achieved international success with a series of hit recordings through the 1980s and 1990s, including the albums Listen Like Thieves, Kick, X and Welcome to Wherever You Are and the singles "Original Sin", "Need You Tonight", "Devil Inside" and "New Sensation". Their original lead singer, Michael Hutchence, died in 1997 and INXS did not perform publicly for a year. Hutchence was born in Sydney, son of Kelland ("Kell") and Patricia Hutchence, but was subsequently raised in Hong Kong. He began performing at the age of eight in a local toy store commercial. The family eventually returned to Sydney in Hutchence's late teens, and it was there that Hutchence befriended Andrew Farriss at Davidson High School on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Shortly, Michael and Andrew joined with Andrew's brothers Tim and Jon, as well as friends Garry Gary Beers and Kirk Pengilly to form their first band, The Farriss Brothers, which would ultimately become INXS. The INXS album, Elegantly Wasted, was released in April 1997. Hutchence and INXS went on a world tour. The final leg of the tour was to be in Australia in November and December. However, on the morning of 22 November 1997, Hutchence, aged 37, was found dead in his room at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Double Bay, Sydney. A belt found at the scene suggested that he had died by hanging. The New South Wales coroner determined that Hutchence's death was the result of suicide, but analysis of the witness statements in the coroner's report, the lack of a suicide note and other anecdotal evidence, such as the fact that Hutchence was found nude, has led some—including Hutchence's brother and other close relatives—to suggest that the death may have resulted from autoerotic asphyxiation. Michael Hutchence's coffin was carried out of St. Andrew's Cathedral by members of the band and his younger brother Rhett. "Never Tear Us Apart" was played in the background. | 11/1/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Rock Musician Johnny Lima LIVE!! - Oct 31,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews the talented (and incredibly funny) rocker Johnny Lima. Whoever said “Rock is Dead!” obviously forgot to mention its demise to Johnny Lima. After hearing his new CD Livin’ Out Loud, it’s clear that Lima sure as hell didn’t get the message. Johnny Lima is back with a new album called Livin' Out Loud, released May 4, 2009. The album showcases a more guitar-oriented approach than Lima's previous releases, or as one critic put it, “12 stunning new songs! His new stuff sounds more dirty, catchier and rougher than everything else before.” Lima spent the last three years lending his production skills to artists like Dirty Penny, Miss Crazy, Diamond Lane and Freakshow (featuring Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin, Jeff LeBar and Markus Allen Christopher), but now he's doing what he does best -- and that's making melodic Rock 'N Roll like no one else. Born to Portuguese immigrants in a small town in central California, Lima got his first taste of Rock ‘N Roll at the tender age of four, when his parents let him stay up late one night to catch KISS on a TV show. Little did they know that it was that one band on that one TV show, that would convince their child that all he was meant to do in his life was to Rock ‘N Roll All Night. After many years of “playing” to his favorite KISS records with a tennis racket, his parents finally gave in and bought him his first guitar, eight years later at age 12. “I was too impatient to ‘learn’ the guitar the proper way. I wanted to get down to writing songs the minute I picked up the guitar for the first time” said Lima. Although the music business wasn’t kind to him in his own backyard, across the Atlantic, Lima's style of music was still respected and garnered the attention of many independent labels in Europe, those hell bent on keeping melodic rock alive. Remember... if it rocks, and if it’s catchy as hell, then it must be Johnny Lima. | 10/31/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Cruel Death With True Crime Writer M. William Phelps - Oct 30,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she welcomes best-selling New York Times True Crime writer M. Williams Phelps to the show to disucss his newest book Cruel Death. Erika Sifrit was once a high school basketball star and an honours student. Then she married Navy SEAL Benjamin Sifrit. In the sun-kissed, sea-swept resort town, a loving couple crossed paths with Erika and B.J. Sifrit. Wouldn’t it be nice if your child committed herself to doing a simple act of kindness every day? Legends of Music: Marvin Gaye - Oct 25,2009 | Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr., better known by his stage name Marvin Gaye, (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984) was an American singer-songwriter and instrumentalist with a three-octave vocal range. Starting as a member of the doo-wop group The Moonglows in the late fifties, he ventured into a solo career after the group disbanded in 1960 signing with the Tamla subsidiary of Motown Records. After starting off as a session drummer, Gaye ranked as the label's top-selling solo artist during the sixties. Due to solo hits including "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Ain't That Peculiar", "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and his duet singles with singers such as Mary Wells and Tammi Terrell, he was crowned "The Prince of Motown" and "The Prince of Soul". Notable for fighting the hit-making but restrictive Motown process in which performers and songwriters and producers were kept separate, Gaye proved with albums like his 1971 What's Going On and his 1973 Let's Get It On that he was able to produce music without relying on the system, inspiring fellow Motown artists such as Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to do the same. His mid-1970s work including the Let's Get It On and I Want You albums helped influence the quiet storm, urban adult contemporary and slow jam genres. After a self-imposed European exile in the late seventies, Gaye returned on the 1982 Grammy-winning hit, "Sexual Healing" and the Midnight Love album before his death. Gaye was shot dead by his father on April 1, 1984. He was posthumously inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. In 2008, the American music magazine Rolling Stone ranked Gaye #6 on its list of The Greatest Singers of All Time, and ranked #18 on 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. | 10/25/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: Teena Marie - Oct 24,2009 | Teena Marie (born Mary Christine Brockert; March 5, 1956) is an American Grammy Award-nominated singer–songwriter–producer. Marie, nicknamed Lady T, is a protegée of late funk legend Rick James, and is notable as one of the few successful white performers of R&B. She sings R&B with strong, robust vocals and plays rhythm guitar, keyboards and congas. She also has written, produced, sung and arranged virtually all of her songs since her 1980 release Irons in the Fire. She has quoted this as being her favorite album. She has a daughter named Alia Rose who, as of 2009, sings under the name Rose Le Beau. On September 19, 2008, Teena performed in concert at BB King's restaurant in NYC. Marie took this time to play a couple of finished tracks from her upcoming album, Congo Square, and she received a positive response from the crowd. Congo Square was released on June 9, 2009 on the Stax Records/Concord Music label. She has described the album as "personal and spiritual" and indicated that it is more jazz-influenced than most of her previous work. Can't Last a Day, a duet with Faith Evans, leaked to the internet in March 2009. Teena Marie says of Evans, "It was after I had recorded the song (Can't Last a Day) I got the idea to put Faith on it. I’ve always loved Faith and her vocal style. She reminds me of me. Her correlation with Biggie — having a career with him and without him — reminds me of me and Rick (Rick James). I feel like she’s a younger me. Of the younger ladies, she’s the one I love most.” [13] The album proved another success, reaching the Top 20 on Billboard's Top 200, and giving Teena Marie yet another Top 10 R&B chart entry. | 10/24/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: Angela Bofill - Oct 23,2009 | What? You haven't heard of Angela Bofill? Well, she is nothing short of amazing with a voice so powerful it can knock you out! Angela Bofill (born on May 2, 1954 in The Bronx) is an American R&B contralto vocalist and songwriter. Angela Bofill was born to a Cuban father and Puerto Rican mother. She performed with Ricardo Morrero & the Group and Dance Theater of Harlem chorus prior to her 1978 debut album, Angie. She scored several dance hits such as "Angel Of The Night," "Something About You," "Holding Out For Love," and "Too Tough." However, she is probably best known for her ballad "This Time I'll Be Sweeter" and her signature tune, "I Try". In the early 1980s, she recorded You're A Special Part Of Me, a duet with romantic balladeer Johnny Mathis. Her 1983 album "Teaser" featured the Top 10 R&B chart hit "I'm On Your Side," which also became a hit for Jennifer Holliday in 1991. Bofill is one of the first Latina musicians to find success in the R&B market. She was released from intensive care on January 15 and required speech and physical therapy. Because Ms. Bofill did not have health insurance, a benefit concert was organized to pay her hospital bills. The show, planned by Engel along with NY radio stations Kiss FM and CD 101.9, was held on March 11 at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ. According to her website www.AngelaBofill.com, Ms. Bofill suffered another massive stroke on July 10, 2007. Her condition at this time is stable. Because Angela has been receiving daily therapy, her mobility, and speech have improved dramatically. Legends of Music: Billie Holiday - Oct 17,2009 | Before there was Amy Winehouse there was Billie Holiday...and sadly Amy's story may have a similar ending if she continues down the road she is on. Anyway, I digress...Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan; April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed Lady Day by her loyal friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday was a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Above all, she was admired for her deeply personal and intimate approach to singing. Critic John Bush wrote that she "changed the art of American pop vocals forever." She co-wrote only a few songs, but several of them have become jazz standards, notably "God Bless the Child", "Don't Explain", and "Lady Sings the Blues". She also became famous for singing jazz standards written by others, including "Easy Living" and "Strange Fruit." On May 31, 1959, she was taken to Metropolitan Hospital in New York suffering from liver and heart disease. Police officers were stationed at the door to her room. She was arrested for drug possession as she lay dying and her hospital room was raided by authorities. Holiday remained under police guard at the hospital until she died from cirrhosis of the liver on July 17, 1959. In the final years of her life, she had been progressively swindled out of her earnings, and she died with $0.70 in the bank and $750 (a tabloid fee) on her person. | 10/17/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Seven Days of Rage: The Deadly Crime Spree of the Craigslist Killer (48 Hours Mysteries) - Oct 13,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she inteterviews authors Paul LaRosa and Maria Cramer who wrote the stunning book Seven Days of Rage: The Deadly Crime Spree of the Craigslist Killer (48 Hours Mysteries). For this book The Deadly Crime Spree of the Craigslist Killer a producer from the 48 Hours Mystery team (Paul LaRosa)teamed up with Boston Globe reporter Maria Cramer to reveal the secret life of the young man known now as the "Craigslist Killer." Compressed into a seven-day time span, the story of the Craigslist Killer just kept unfolding: three vulnerable women, each cornered in a hotel room, one of them murdered when she resisted. Who would be next? The images of the suspect are jarring: an all- American handsome young man who could be the guy next door, clean-cut and casually dressed. Using hightech investigative tools and old-fashioned shoe leather, detectives from the Boston Police Department track down their man and arrest the unlikeliest of suspects: twenty-three-year-old Philip Markoff, a brilliant, wellregarded medical student at Boston University who is engaged to be married on the beach at sunset to a beautiful and trusting fiancée. If guilty, what is his motivation? Why did he allegedly use Craigslist, the online bulletin board, to pick out his victims? The arrest of Markoff, a man with no criminal record, seems incomprehensible, but the evidence against him seems overwhelming. Police match his gun and fingerprints to the crimes, and use a trail of digital bread crumbs to lead to Markoff's doorstep. When Manhattan model and Julissa Brisman agreed to meet a client at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel, she thought it would be just one more day on her road to recovering from an alcohol addiction. Instead, she was discovered lying facedown in a pool of blood on a hallway carpet, her head battered, a bullet through her heart. The hotel's surveillance cameras captured the image of a tall, blond, clean-cut man, texting on his BlackBerry--sociopath anyone? | 10/12/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Great Music: Harry Connick, Jr - Oct 09,2009 | Since I am sick and a little bit blue I decided to listen to a little Harry Connick, Jr. and his new CD Your Songs which I purchased today online from my hospital bed LOL! I love technology, honestly. Not only is Harry Connick, Jr. easy on the eyes, but he can play the piano and sing like nobody's business. It's like he channels Frank Sinatra everytime he opens his mouth. And let's not forget that after Hurricane Katrina, Harry Connick, Jr., Brad Pitt and Shaquille O'Neill did more for New Orleans than FEMA! So he is handsome, talented and a humanitarian. Legends of Music: Switch & DeBarge - Sep 28,2009 | Switch was an R&B/funk band that found fame recording for the Gordy label in the late 1970s releasing hit songs such as "There'll Never Be", "I Call Your Name" and "The Best Beat in Town" and influenced bands such as DeBarge, which featured members Bobby and Tommy's siblings. Featuring brothers Bobby and Tommy DeBarge and Greg Williams, all of whom hailed from Grand Rapids, Michigan along with Akron, Ohio natives Phillip Ingram (brother of James Ingram), Eddie Fluellen and Jody Sims. The group got the attention of Jermaine Jackson, former member of The Jackson 5, who heard their demo tape and within days the group was promply signed to the Motown Records subsidiary label, Gordy. There, they recorded and released their self titled debut album in 1978. The album featured their first Top 10 R&B hit single entitled "There'll Never Be". Depending on whom was singing lead on the songs, their songs were written by Williams, Ingram and Bobby DeBarge and often in collaboration with Jermaine Jackson, who continued to sponsor the band throughout their five years on the label. Though they never did manage to cross over into the pop singles chart, they were a consistent presence on the R&B charts through the late 1970s with albums such as Switch II from 1979 (their second release), This Is My Dream and Reaching For Tomorrow in 1980. Their final release on Gordy was Switch V which was released in 1981. Other than "There'll Never Be", songs such as "I Call Your Name" and "Best Beat in Town" also became hits for the group. Shortly after the DeBarge brothers left to mentor the group DeBarge with their siblings, and lead singer Philip Ingram left to pursue a solo career, new musicians were added in the personage. Former lead singer Bobby DeBarge died of AIDS-related complications in his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 16, 1995 at age 39. | 9/27/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: Patsy Cline - Sep 27,2009 | We have the divas of music: Barbara, Celine, Whitney, Mariah...but there will never be another singer like Pasty Cline. Patsy Cline (September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963), born Virginia Patterson Hensley, was an American country music singer who enjoyed pop music crossover success during the era of the Nashville sound in the early 1960s. Since her death at age 30 in a 1963 plane crash at the height of her career, she has been considered one of the most influential, successful, revered, and acclaimed female vocalists of the 20th century. Cline was best known for her rich tone and emotionally expressive bold contralto voice which, along with her role as a mover and shaker in the country music industry, has been cited and praised as an inspiration by many vocalists of various music genres. The story of her life and career has been the subject of numerous books, movies, documentaries, articles and stage plays. Posthumously, millions of her albums have been sold over the past 46 years and she has been given numerous awards, which has given her an iconic status with some fans similar to that of legends Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Only ten years after her death, she became the first female solo artist inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2002, she was voted by artists and members of the country music industry as number one on CMT's television special of the 40 Greatest Women of Country Music, and in 1999 she was voted number 11 on VH1's special The 100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll by members and artists of the rock industry. According to her 1973 Country Music Hall of Fame plaque, "Her heritage of timeless recordings is testimony to her artistic capacity." New Circlemakers Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery - Sep 24,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews Andrew Collins LIVE from the UK about his newest book New Circlemakers Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery (official release date 11/16/09! It's not even out yet, but I've got it and it was quite a read! Crop circles are patterns created by the flattening of crops such as wheat, barley, rye, or corn. The term crop circle was first used by Collins to describe simple circles he was researching. While patterns involving complex geometries have been observed, the term circle has stuck as a generic term for crop patterns. Various alternative hypotheses have been offered to explain the formation of crop circles such as the paranormal. It has also been suggested that ball lightning and vortices in the wind might rarely produce isolated indentations in crops. Twenty Five Words: How The Serenity Prayer Can Save Your Life - Sep 22,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she is joined once again by the one, the only, author Barb Rogers! These Twenty-five words are the bedrock of the worldwide Alcoholics Anonymous movement, a movement that has saved and improved millions of lives. When Barb Rogers first heard this prayer a quarter of a century ago, she could scarcely credit it and hadn't the ears to believe it. It all begins with "meee, meee, meee," she writes. As in, Why is God doing all these things to meee? Why doesn't God understand that I know what's best for mee and do what I ask him to? Why are other people doing all these things to mee? Well as it turns out, it's not all about "mee." Rogers tells her story and invites readers to take a tough, loving look at their own. There are some things we should accept, period. We shouldn't take them personally. We shouldn't whine or scream or go off on a tear. Then there are some things we can change, and we should probably take a look at those as well. And the real trick, the one that comes from years of saying the prayer and letting its healing principles sink in, is knowing the difference. Barb Rogers' own story starts in the depths of alcoholism, with deceased children, broken marriages, lost jobs. Sure there were reasons, but reasons didn't change anything: the Serenity Prayer did. | 9/21/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Immortal Remains: The Evidence for Life After Death - Sep 15,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews author of the book Immortal Remains: The Evidence for Life After Death Stephen E. Braude. Dr. Stephen Braude did an excellent work in this book. Since this topic is amazingly vast, there is no escape from making a highly "incomplete" work. Nonetheless, he managed to achieve a level of quality that, in my view, makes this book a must read. It did help me enormously, both with its empirical feedbacks and with its theoretical ones. The main strength of it is its deep and detailed evaluation and comparison of the "life after life hypothesis" Stephen E. Braude is Professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Department at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Scientific Exploration. He studied Philosophy and English at Oberlin College and the University of London, and in 1971 he received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He turned his attention to several related problems in the philosophy of science and the philosophy of mind —in particular, questions concerning causality, scientific explanation generally, and psychological explanation specifically. One of his overriding concerns was to demonstrate the inadequacy of mechanistic theories in psychology and cognitive science. Prof. Braude also examined the evidence of parapsychology to see whether it would provide new insights into these and other traditional philosophical issues. After that, he shifted his focus to problems in philosophical psychopathology, writing extensively on the connections between dissociation and classic philosophical problems as well as central issues in parapsychology—for example, the unity of consciousness, multiple personality and moral responsibility, and the nature of mental mediumship. Prof. Braude is past President of the Parapsychological Association and is the recipient of several grants and fellowships. | 9/14/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: Andy Gibb - Sep 07,2009 | I love Andy Gibb. He died on March 10th, 1988 only five days after his 30th birthday and the same day I found out I was having my first child. One young life ended, another was just beginning. Andy Gibb (5 March 1958 – 10 March 1988) was an English singer, teen idol, and the youngest brother of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, also known as the Bee Gees. In the United States, Gibb became the first male solo artist to chart three consecutive Number One singles on the Billboard Hot 100. In July 1977, he had his first major hit, "I Just Want to Be Your Everything", a song written by his brother Barry, just as his first album Flowing Rivers broke into the US Top 20, on its way to selling over a million copies. The album's second single "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" broke in early 1978 amidst the commercial explosion caused by his brothers' contributions to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, replacing "Stayin' Alive" at the top of the US charts, and then surpassed by "Night Fever" when it reached the summit in mid-March. Continuing the momentum of his first successes, Gibb began work with the Gibb-Galuten-Richardson production team on his second album Shadow Dancing, which was released in April 1978. The title track, written by all four Gibb brothers, was released as a single in the US in April 1978, and in mid-June began a seven week run at number one, achieving platinum status. Two further Top Ten singles, "An Everlasting Love" (which reached number five) and "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" (which reached number nine), a song also released by his brothers (in 1979), were extracted from the album, which became another million seller. Despite his impressive accomplishments, the pressures and excesses of such rapid success began to consume Gibb, and eventually he would succumb to drug addiction and the reality of a career in decline. | 9/6/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Great Music: Panic! At The Disco - Sep 05,2009 | I am playing songs selected by my hubby from one of his favs Panic! At The Disco and their CD A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. I have never listened to them before but I love new music and my husband's taste is out there so it should be F-U-N. Panic! at the Disco (known as Panic at the Disco between 2008 and 2009) is a rock band formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2004. The band comprises Brendon Urie (vocals) and Spencer Smith (drums). In July 2009, both Ryan Ross (guitar, vocals) and Jon Walker (bass) left the band, citing creative differences as the reason for their depature. They have since formed a new band, entitled The Young Veins. Panic! at the Disco's debut album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, reached #13 on the US Billboard 200, and has sold over 2.2 million copies worldwidesince its September 2005 release. The band's second album, Pretty. Odd. was released on March 25, 2008 and debuted at #2 in the US. The band was formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, by two childhood friends — Ryan Ross on the guitar and Spencer Smith on the drums. Since the age of 13, the two played Blink-182 covers together in a two-piece band called "Pet Salamander". Later they recruited more members to create a band under the name of "The Summer League" with Brent Wilson and Trevor Howell, who would later leave the band. Wilson met Brendon Urie at Palo Verde High School. Wilson asked Urie to try out as guitarist for the fledgling band, as they were looking for a replacement for Trevor at the time. Originally, Urie was not the band's lead singer. Rather, the position belonged to former guitarist and lyricist Ryan Ross. However, when they heard Brendon sing backup vocals during a rehearsal, they were impressed with his backup vocal abilities and unanimously decided to make him the singer. The band then settled on the name 'Panic! at the Disco.' They lifted the name from the lyrics of a song called "Panic" by Name Taken. | 9/5/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Great Music: Nirvana - Aug 27,2009 | Join us as we take a listen to Nirvana, one of my favorite groups...still. Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990. With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from the band's second album Nevermind (1991), Nirvana entered into the mainstream, bringing along with it a subgenre of alternative rock called grunge. Other Seattle grunge bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden also gained popularity, and as a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre on radio and music television in the United States during the early-to-mid-1990s. As Nirvana's frontman, Kurt Cobain found himself referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation", with Nirvana the "flagship band" of Generation X. Cobain was uncomfortable with the attention and placed his focus on the band's music, believing the band's message and artistic vision to have been misinterpreted by the public, challenging the band's audience with its third studio album In Utero (1993). Nirvana's brief run ended with Cobain's death in April 1994, but the band's popularity continued in the years that followed. In 2002, "You Know You're Right", an unfinished demo from the band's final recording session, topped radio playlists around the world. Since their debut, the band has sold over twenty-five million albums in the US alone, and over fifty million worldwide. | 8/26/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: Queen of Blues Koko Taylor - Aug 26,2009 | If you didn't listen to last nights show with Clarence Stevens from the radio show in Gary, Indiana The Blues You Can Use, you need to do that. Clarence was friends with and worked with the Queen of the Blues Koko Taylor until the time of her death this summer. Born Cora Walton in Shelby County, Tennessee, Taylor was the daughter of a sharecropper. She left Memphis for Chicago, Illinois in 1952 with her husband, truck driver Robert "Pops" Taylor. In the late 1950s she began singing in Chicago blues clubs. She was spotted by Willie Dixon in 1962, and this led to wider performances and her first recording contract. In 1965, Taylor was signed by Chess Records where she recorded "Wang Dang Doodle," a song written by Dixon and recorded by Howlin' Wolf five years earlier. The song became a hit, reaching number four on the R&B charts in 1966, and selling a million copies. Koko Taylor recorded several versions of "Wang Dang Doodle" over the years, including a live version at the 1967 American Folk Blues Festival with harmonica player Little Walter and guitarist Hound Dog Taylor. Taylor subsequently recorded more material, both original and covers, but never repeated that initial chart success. After her recovery from a near-fatal car crash in 1989, the 1990s found Taylor in films such as Blues Brothers 2000 and Wild at Heart, and she opened a blues club on Division Street in Chicago in 1994. Taylor influenced musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Shemekia Copeland, Janis Joplin, Shannon Curfman, and Susan Tedeschi. In the years prior to her death, she performed over 70 concerts a year and resided just south of Chicago in Country Club Hills, Illinois. Taylor died on June 3, 2009, after complications from surgery for gastrointestinal bleeding on May 19, 2009. Her final performance was at the Blues Music Awards, on May 7, 2009. | 8/26/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends Of Music: The Platters - Aug 23,2009 | Please tell me you've heard of the Platters? Well...no worries because we're going to listen to the all time greatest hits of this fantastic group. The Platters formed in Los Angeles in 1953 and were initially managed by Ralph Bass. The group had a contract with Federal Records but had found little success before meeting music entrepreneur and songwriter Buck Ram. The band recorded a series of singles backing Linda Hayes before Ram made some changes to the lineup, most notably the addition of lead vocalist Tony Williams (Linda Hayes' brother) and female vocalist Zola Taylor. Under Ram's guidance, the Platters recorded seven singles for Federal in the R&B/gospel style, scoring a few minor regional hits on the West Coast. One song recorded during their Federal tenure, "Only You (And You Alone)", originally written by Ram for the Ink Spots was deemed unreleasable by the label. Despite their lack of chart success, the Platters were a profitable touring group--successful enough that The Penguins, coming off their #2 single "Earth Angel", asked Ram to manage them as well. With the Penguins in hand, Ram was able to parlay Mercury Records' interest into a 2-for-1 deal. To sign the Penguins, Ram insisted, Mercury also had to take the Platters. Ironically, the Penguins would never have a hit for the label. What set The Platters apart from most other groups of the era was that Ram had the group incorporate. Each member received equal shares of stock, full royalties and their Social Security was paid. As group members left, Ram and his business partner, Jean Bennett, bought their stock which gave them ownership of the "Platters" name, which would become significant later. | 8/23/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Music Challenge: Bria Valente - Aug 20,2009 | When I found out in March of this year that Prince was releasing a new three CD set I was completely stoked. I have been listening to his music since I was 10 years old and I love his new work as much as I love his old stuff. When I purchased Lotusflow3r and opened it I was surprised to find that one of the three CD's belonged to an unknown Prince ingenue, Bria Valente. Although I have played the heck out of Lotusflow3r and MPLSOUND I have NEVER listened to Bria's CD. So tonight, for the first time, we will listen together. I ask that you listen and put your comments about what you think of Bria and her singing...I'm sure the songs were all written by Prince...just call it a hunch (LOL!) I will try my best to forget the Prince connection and judge her on her own merits. She is certainly beautiful and has a great body I'd kill for...but looks and talent are not mutually exlusive. So shall we hold hands and dive into the music pool together? Let's go! | 8/19/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Ray Charles: Man and Music With Michael Lydon - Aug 20,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews Michael Lydon, author of the book Ray Charles: Man and Music. Lydon is also the founding editor of Rolling Stone magazine. In 1954, Atlantic Records honchos Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler visited an Atlanta club where one of their artists was gigging. Ray Charles and his band blew into a new song when the men entered. It was "I Got a Woman," the tune that marked the blind Albany, Georgia-born singer-pianist's evolution from an able imitator of Nat "King" Cole and Charles Brown into an artist who would transform American music. In Ray Charles: Man and Music, veteran music journalist Michael Lydon imbues the familiar story with fresh detail upon fresh detail. Charles's early years spent scuffling on the chitlin circuit, his embrace of everything from pop chestnuts and country hits to hip jazz as an audaciously eclectic record maker, and the many hours given over to womanizing and a heroin addiction at the height of his stardom are given a cinematic immediacy here. More than most artists, Charles followed his instincts to huge artistic rewards and the love of many listeners who recognized their own voices in his sound. Lydon captures as much of the offstage man as is likely to ever make it to the page--the man who himself once insisted, "My life was what it was. Whatever it became, I made it so." | 8/19/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Legends of Music: The Inkspots - Aug 16,2009 | The Inkspots are a musical group from the 1930's. They were my grandfather's favorite singers. He was born in the 1890's and died three years before I was born, but when I listen to The Inkspots, I always feel his spirit with me. I love him, yet in life I never knew him. The Ink Spots were a popular African American vocal group that helped define the musical genre that led to rhythm & blues and rock and roll, and the subgenre doo-wop. They and the Mills Brothers, another black vocal group of the 1930s and 1940s, gained much acceptance in the white community. The style of their songs, usually began with a guitar riff, followed by the tenor, who sang the whole song through. After the tenor finished singing, the bass would either recite the first half, or the bridge of the song, or would speak the words, almost in a free form, that were not part of the song, commonly using the words "Honey Child", or Honey Babe", expressing his love for the opposite sex in the song. This was followed by the tenor, who finished up singing the last refrain or the last half of the song. | 8/15/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

What If Someone I Know Is Gay?: Answers to Questions About What It Means to Be Gay and Lesbian - Aug 13,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews author Eric Marcus about his book What If Someone I Know Is Gay?: Answers to Questions About What It Means to Be Gay and Lesbian. Following his previous books on the subject, openly gay writer Marcus received a barrage of questions from young readers curious to understand their own feelings or the experiences of others. In response, he offers a detailed, reader-friendly, question-and-answer book that covers many topics, shatters myths, and affirms quite honorably the dignity of all people. He holds forth on everything from sexual feelings, dating, sex, and marriage to religion, activism, and discrimination. His explanations are helpful, forthright, and simple enough for some older middle-school readers. Only in the chapter on sex, where he talks briefly about heterosexual and gay sex, is there information that might require librarians to use discretion where younger patrons are concerned. Beyond that, however, Marcus provides the clarity and support that many readers, gay or straight, need. | 8/12/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

William C. Moyers Discusses Addiction, His New Book A New Day A New Life Journal & Hazelden Rehab - Aug 12,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews William C. Moyers about addiction and recovery. William is the author of the books Broken and A New Day A New Life Journal (with DVD). Moyers is also Executive Director for the Hazelden Center for Public Advocacy in Minnesota. In his memoir, Moyers, the son of prominent author, media figure and LBJ advisor Bill Moyers, recounts his heartbreaking struggle with alcohol and cocaine during the '80s and early '90s. Moyers covered his tracks through bold-faced denial until he spiraled out of control and landed in the first of four rehab stints. Moyers deftly tackles the complexities of sobriety, especially acceptance of those broken situations and relationships that cannot be fixed. Audie Award–winning narrator Brick brings an appropriate blend of pathos and grit to the very formidable task at hand, giving compelling voice to a tale of substance abuse without descending into a maudlin soap opera confessional. Brick proves especially masterful in recreating the delicate nuances of the father-son dialogues, as the elder Moyers struggles to convey both unconditional love toward his troubled grown child and unequivocal nonacceptance for that same young man's destructive patterns of behavior. | 8/12/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Mommy Doesn’t Drink Here Anymore: Getting Through the First Year of Sobriety - Aug 05,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she speaks to the author of Mommy Doesn’t Drink Here Anymore: Getting Through the First Year of Sobriety, Rachael Brownell. Brownell is a frequent contributor to various online parenting spaces, including The Imperfect Parent (www.imperfectparent.com), Babble.com, and Yahoo's Shine site (shine.yahoo.com). In this frank memoir, she journals her slide into alcoholism and her first year of recovery. She details in a conversational voice how her postpartumdepression and the stresses of mothering three children, all under five years old, triggered her gradual dependence on multiple glasses of white wine. Her participation in social "cocktail playdate" groups for mommies with young children deepened the problem. Brownell doesn’t pull any punches about the ugly side of her addiction, and her first year of sobriety is fraught with times where she felt lost, as if she were hanging on only by her fingernails, and overwhelmed by life without alcohol to help buffer it. Verdict Brownell has an easy, readable style and a simple message. There is no glowing happy ending, just the reality that life must be faced one day at a time. This work will appeal to readers who like memoirs about ordinary people overcoming difficult life problems; individuals who find 12-step and recovery literature helpful will also be interested in this personal journey. | 8/4/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Keep It Simple and Sane: Freeing Yourself from Addictive Thinking - Aug 04,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews the author of the book Keep It Simple and Sane: Freeing Yourself from Addictive Thinking, Barbara Rogers. Inspired by the 12-step saying, “Life is simple, it's people who are complicated,” Barb Rogers points out in Keep It Simple and Sane that it s pretty easy to tell ourselves lie upon lie as we explain away bad behavior associated with drugs, alcohol, food, sex, work...whatever, in an attempt to feel better about our complicated lies. And of course, we can't do anything to simplify our lives because we're too busy keeping up with our complicated lives, so we drink, smoke, or shoot, to seek release in inappropriate ways to relieve the complications. But we never do. Through the telling of her own story and those of fellow travelers, Rogers encourages readers to wait, stop, and hold the phone! Start with Mentally Simple (the opposite of Stinking Thinking) and just do it. Start small. “Grab a mental flashlight” and follow her lead to discover what you were thinking and how you might think differently. Offering 24 simple ideas in four sections (mind, emotions, spirituality, physicality), along with strategies and exercises to introduce them into your daily life, this book is for people on the simple path to wellness, for people who simply want to take charge to change the things they can change, accept the things they cannot change, and learn to know the difference without an operatic, addictive song and dance. | 8/3/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Tupac Shakur: A Musical Tribute - Aug 02,2009 | I love Tupac. I have selected fifteen of his most amazing songs and I will be playing them for you here this evening. Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac (or simply Pac) and Makaveli, was an American rapper. In addition to his status as a top-selling recording artist, Shakur was a promising actor and a social activist. Most of Shakur's songs are about growing up amid violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, problems in society and conflicts with other rappers. Shakur's work is known for advocating political, economic, social and racial equality. Shakur was initially a roadie and backup dancer for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground. Shakur became the target of lawsuits and experienced other legal problems. He was later shot five times and robbed in the lobby of a recording studio in New York City. Following the event, Shakur grew suspicious that other figures in the rap industry had prior knowledge of the incident and did not warn him; the controversy helped spark the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry. Shakur was later a convicted sex offender accused and found guilty of sexual abuse. After serving eleven months of his sentence he was released from prison on an appeal financed by Marion "Suge" Knight, the CEO of Death Row Records. In exchange for Suge's assistance, Shakur agreed to release three albums under the Death Row label. (the beginning of the end) On the night of September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. He died several days later of respiratory failure and cardiac arrest at the University Medical Center. Shug Knight was with him, but was not killed (hmmmmm...makes ya wonder, right?) The first songs I am playing were written and performed by two listeners of YMHTR--DRE.P and his new club/dance song and two original songs from Michael Dean, host of The Prince Podcast at www.freedomtrainonline.com. The God Theory: Universes, Zero-Point Fields, and What's Behind It All - Jul 31,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews author of the book The God Theory: Universes, Zero-Point Fields, and What's Behind It All, Dr. Bernard Haisch. Physicist Haisch thinks "Let there be light" isn't just a randomly chosen phrase for the Creation. Indeed, he believes that in the mysteries of light rest clues to the deepest mysteries of the universe, something he calls God, though he doesn't mean by that word the personification that some believers prefer. A scientist who has worked in astrophysics and theoretical physics, Haisch has retained his wonder at the universe from childhood, as he describes in the affecting memoir with which the book begins. Many scientists find no tension between their profession and the profession of belief in divinity, but Haisch goes one step further by attempting to find a scientific explanation for the phenomenon generally called God. Light, that familiar but utterly mysterious force, is the key to such an understanding. Readable and engaging, Haisch will be embraced by those concerned with finding ways of reconciling science and religion. | 7/30/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Writing Down Your Soul: How to Activate and Listen to the Extraordinary Voice Within - Jul 28,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews the author of the book Writing Down Your Soul: How to Activate and Listen to the Extraordinary Voice Within Janet Conner. You could pray, or meditate, or dream, or visit a shaman, or a minister, or a hypnotherapist. With so many routes into inner consciousness, why write? Of all the ways to get in touch with God, as you understand God... to hear the small, still voice pointing you in the right direction... why take the time to write? One reason: it works. It works amazingly well. If you want to engage in a vibrant conversation with the wisdom that dwells just a hair below your conscious awareness, write. Write every day, at approximately the same time, with passion, honesty, and the intention of speaking with and listening to the voice within. Janet Conner was escaping a terrible situation of domestic abuse. While trying to figure out how she and her son could live and how they could eat, she realized she had hit rock bottom. With no other advisers, she listened to her own inner voice, which told her to start writing. As she did, Janet's inner voice gained clarity and strength, and she felt an incredible connection to the divine, and almost immediately miracles began to happen. Today, research scientists in psychology, physics, biochemistry, and neurology are providing peeks into what consciousness is and how it works. Their findings give us intriguing clues as to what is actually happening in and through our bodies, minds, and spirits as we roll pen across paper. Writing Down Your Soul explores some of this research and instructs readers how to access the power and beauty of their own deepest selves. | 7/27/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Doctors of Deception: What They Don't Want You to Know About Shock Treatment - Jul 27,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews author of the book Doctors of Deception: What They Don't Want You to Know About Shock Treatment Linda Andre. Linda Andre's book is both a powerful memoir of her own experience as an ECT "patient" and a documented account of the underbelly of the 'shock industry.' It raises profound questions about ECT that both psychiatry and the National Institute of Mental Health--if they want to be honest with the American public--desperately need to address. For many years, activist and writer Linda Andre has been forcefully and cogently examining the reigning (and mostly unchallenged) professed claims and practices of our medical establishment's wizards of shock therapy. In this thoroughly-researched, pathbreaking, and essential book, the author undraws the curtains that have for too long cloaked these claims, practices, and wizards. It is a work of courage, heart, and brains. | 7/27/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Best Music You've Never Heard: Royal Wood - Jul 26,2009 | Royal is a Singer/Songwriter, whose catchy pop songs are delivered with a heart-felt tone that give them a universal quality. These are perfectly executed songs. Artistic influences can be a curious mix of inheritance and inspiration. From a second-hand vinyl collection to an intuited sense for music's creation, Royal Wood has come a long way from the days of borrowed instruments and secondhand cassette tapes. This self-taught multi-instrumental artist has an ear for everything, from Sgt. Pepper's to Vince Guaraldi. Royal draws from generations past but not forgotten; his music sensibility is timeless but never dated. Like a ribbon of Super 8 tape that contains blurry, sun-saturated summer memories, Royal's piano-soaked style is unapologetically romantic and unabashedly nostalgic. This filmic quality has made for an easy transition to film and television, and Royal's music has been included in many high-profile soundtracks as a result. The sweet melancholy of loves lost and found diffuses throughout Royal's two full-length albums and now two EPs, including the celebrated 2007 release A Good Enough Day, which brought rave reviews, international radio play, multiple European and US tours, and a recent sold-out appearance in Toronto, ON. Royal's touring resume also confirms a growing acknowledgement of his work among Canada's top musicians, exemplified by national invitations from Sarah Slean, Jill Barber and Serena Ryder. | 7/26/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Best Music You've Never Heard: Jah Jah Yute - Jul 25,2009 | Jah Jah Yute was born with the name Steadman Anthony Shearer, in the parish of Hanover, Jamaica in a little district called Rock Spring. He is the 2 eldest of 5 siblings. While growing up he said he was like a shephard boy caring for the goats, cows and chickens his family raised as well as farming sugar cane and yams. In his middle school days he walked nine miles to and from school in between taking care of his home chores. This was a very creative time for Jah Jah Yute because he had the secluded time to look into life as he knew it and with his spiritually he wrote his meditations. In Rock Springs, his father owned a nightclub with a sound system called Sir King B. Jah Jah first performed as a DJ, on this sound system. One evening Jah Jah heard the Sound System of Black Star playing and during entertainer time, instead of dj-ing he started singing free style of his spiritual meditations and was well received by the audience. This inspired Jah Jah and he soon went to Kingston and was introduced by a friend to the owner of Mixing Lab Studio where he met Bunny Wailer, Yellow Man and others. This is where he was introduced to the recording studio. While visiting Montego Bay he was directed to African Symbol Studio where he recorded his first couple of songs, "Do Rasta Work" and "Too Much Slackness Inna Di Music". Jah Jah recorded dub plates for sound systems and became linked with Iron Dogg Studio. Here is where he recorded "Gun Shot Blazes" and "No War". Jah Jah was visiting a friend in Montego Bay there he met Helene McLeod who was on vacation from America. He sang "Gun Shot Blazes" for her and she told him that it was #1 and they decided to work together and formed Enel Productions, their recording label. | 7/25/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Best Music You've Never Heard: Vallejo - Jul 24,2009 | Join us as we welcome the Austin based band Vallejo. Vallejo’s striking blend of modern rock grooves, potent guitar work, Latin percussion and soulful lyrics has made Vallejo one of the most popular bands to hail from Austin, Texas. Their music immediately hooks listeners right in, taking them on a roller-coaster ride of musical beats and expressions. Raised in the small town of El Campo, Texas, the band was first formed by the three Vallejo brothers A.J. (Vocals, Guitar), Alejandro (Drums), and Omar (Bass). Growing up in their household of Mexican and Guatemalan descent, the boys were introduced to the music of their parent’s record collection which included the Latin sounds of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, Tito Puente, and Santana, to name a few. “Our band name came easy since all of our friends would tell each other, ‘Let’s go see the Vallejos, or the Vallejo Brothers.’ No matter how hard we tried to come up with other band names, our friend’s flyers and posters would say The Vallejos, so we just went with it and decided to call the band VALLEJO.” Vallejo has gone on to win numerous awards including "Best Rock Band" two years in a row at the Austin Music Awards, Austin’s Aguila Award (which recognizes achievement in the Latin Community), awarded their own "Vallejo Day" by the mayor of Austin, Texas, and was nominated for Univision’s “Best Latin Rock Band in Austin”. Vallejo has also had their songs featured in several TV shows such as WB’s Roswell, MTV’s Road Rules and UPN’s America’s Next Top Model. | 7/23/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Best Music You've Never Heard: The Gray Kid - Jul 23,2009 | The Gray Kid‘s trunk-wobbling anthems and ballads of love and lust have established him as one of independent music’s most dynamic and entertaining performers. Having spent 2008 developing the band SPIRIT ANIMAL with top-call musicians who have recorded and toured with Ben Harper, and others, Gray is poised to enter a new realm of psychedelic soul and dance music that recalls the intensity, grit and eccentricity of The Doors, LCD Soundsystem and Parliament Funkadelic. “FREE MUSIC!!!,” to be released digitally through Gray's website (graykid.com), is the inspiration for a broad effort to offer all of the music he has written and produced, dating back to 2001, in one place for one cost: $0.00. Gray has received high praise from various media outlets (Yahoo, Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Interview), shared the stage with leaders of the new school pack (M.I.A., Cool Kids), and licensed a track to NBC’s 30 Rock, all without a record deal. His strong foundation rests partially on the three albums he has self-produced, recorded and released, partially on his stomping, crooning live shows, and partially on the online presence of his hot-button art collective, People-Food(United Talent Agency/BenderSpink). The collective is responsible for 3 million video views and enables Gray to accompany his musical efforts with high-end visual components and alternative multimedia at every turn. This spring he is scheduled to release an MSN commercial, a new music video, and his second Internet cooking segment with VIMBY.com. In 2009, Spirit Animal will complete its debut full-length, "The Cost of Living." This release will be preceded by an EP of cover songs, "Covers I," which reinvents notable numbers from Beirut, Ginuwine, Alphaville and Sheila Hylton. | 7/22/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Best Music You've Never Heard: Christopher Moon - Jul 21,2009 | A musician by trade, Christopher Moon spent many years playing in and touring with Rock and Metal bands, including Jackyl, Testament, and Venom. Eventually fronting his own group, Cold Moon, Christopher released five albums; No Sacrifice Required, Pleasure and Pain (One in the Same), Cold as Hell, Cold Moon, and Carnivorous Lunar Activities. Eventually his interest in the paranormal overtook his passion for music, and Moon chose to become a full-time professional investigator who has been featured on numerous television and radio program including TruTv's Door To The Dead and A&E's Paranormal State. Wanting the paranormal community and general public to become aware of what he had known for years, that the paranormal existed and could be documented, Christopher partnered with his father, a devout skeptic, in developing a magazine that would represent a truly balanced view of the subject. Consequently, Haunted Times Magazine was born in 2004 www.hauntedtimes.com Prior to publishing the first issue of Haunted Times Magazine, Christopher, seeing a true need for formal paranormal education, opened the first public educational event entitled Ghost Hunter University. These one of a kind events are held at various haunted locations around the United States. It includes fully interactive seminars titled “Ghost Hunting 101” and “Ghost Hunting 102”. His popular Ghost Hunting 101 seminar covers the basics of ghost hunting, from ghost hunting protocol, to equipment used in the field, to definitions and examples of positive and negative evidence. | 7/20/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Best Music You've Never Heard: Tyka Nelson (Little Sister of Prince!) - Jul 19,2009 | Get ready for the amazing Tyka Nelson! Tyka is the only sibling of rock legend Prince. Tyka grew up surrounded by music. The Minneapolis based artist is the daughter of Jazz singer Mattie Shaw, and accomplished musician John L. Nelson. Growing up Tyka listened to Mahalia Jackson records and began singing at the age of 2. She wrote her first song at the ripe old age of 10. Tyka plays 4 different instruments, piano, guitar, bass and clarinet but admits; "I don't consider myself a musician, I play just well enough to put down my own musical ideas." The concept of her music is Christian meets Mainstream. Bridging the gap between the two worlds. As Tyka's Gospel Music appeal has reached the community of Christian listeners, more requests for magazine interviews and live performances have been pouring in. When people have commented if Prince had anything to do with the production, Tyka simply admits, "I sing whatever comes out and if it sounds like him, I don't know it until someone tells me, then I think maybe I should change it, but then I think, since it's really me, why? It is not my intent to sound like anyone else, and I have strived to be original in everything I do. Even though my brother is someone I greatly respect, and love there can only be one Prince." People have also asked why she is not seeking the help of her brother and Tyka explains, "If he helps me then the songs would no longer be my own artistic expression. And although I could have never asked for a more wonderfully, helpful and talented brother, he's the type that would take over, and then my masterpiece would become his. We already know Prince can make great music that sells, the question is, can I?" The answer...yes, yes she certainly can! | 7/19/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Music Of Legends: Featuring Sam Cooke - Jul 19,2009 | I am feeling pretty bummed tonight so I thought I'd share my favorite music with you. First I begin with my favorite MJ song, then I am featuring the legendary Sam Cooke and ending with a song by Otis Redding (a classic!) Cooke was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He added an "e" onto the end of his name, though the reason for this is disputed. Sam was one of seven children of Annie Mae and the Reverend Charles Cook, a Baptist minister. The family moved to Chicago in 1933. In 1950, a 19-year-old Cooke replaced gospel tenor R.H. Harris as lead singer of the landmark gospel group The Soul Stirrers. Under Cooke's leadership, the group signed with Specialty Records and recorded the hits "Peace in the Valley", "How Far Am I From Canaan?", "Jesus Paid the Debt" and "One More River". Cooke's emotive singing inspired a generation of gospel-emulating pop performers in the years to come. Cooke died at the age of 33 on December 11, 1964 at the Hacienda Motel at 9137 South Figueroa in Los Angeles, California, which has since been torn down. Bertha Franklin, manager of the motel, told police that she shot and killed Cooke in self-defense because he had threatened her. Police found Cooke's body in Franklin's apartment/office, clad only in a sports jacket and shoes, but no shirt, pants or underwear. The shooting was ultimately ruled to be a justifiable homicide. (Yeah, right.) Cooke was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Glendale, California. Some posthumous releases followed, many of which became hits, including "A Change Is Gonna Come", an early protest song that is generally regarded as his greatest composition. After Cooke's death, his widow, Barbara, married Bobby Womack. Cooke's daughter, Linda, later married Bobby's brother, Cecil | 7/18/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The Best Music You've Never Heard: Vicki Genfan - Jul 16,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she welcomes Vicki Genfan to the show LIVE! Hailing from New Jersey, Vicki Genfan is simply one of the most exciting guitarists around. Genfan’s dynamic style borrows as much from Michael Hedges and Pat Metheny as it does from James Taylor and Earth Wind and Fire. Playing both original instrumentals and vocal-based material, Genfan uses two-handed tapping, harmonic slaps, and alternate tunings in a style that is uniquely her own. Perhaps Vicki's most celebrated award came in the form of first prize in the 2008 Guitar Player Magazine's 'Guitar Superstar' Competition. Judged by guitar idols, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Elliot Easton, George Lynch and Brendan Smalls, here is what Jim Fusilli of the Wall Street Journal had to say about her win: "It's a stunning victory, a barrier shattered. Guitar Player is a male-dominated domain -- the only photo of a woman musician at work in the current issue is a microscopic shot of bassist Rachel Haden with her back to the camera. The magazine is often a tribute to speed, power, volume and gear. Ms. Genfan plays an acoustic guitar without effects." Valencia, a Chicago-based singer, song writer and guitar player serves up an incredible blend of soul, rock and blues. Her voice has been compared to Nina Simone, Oleta Adams and Tracy Chapman. She has also been called a female Bill Withers. On electric guitar, she wails and keeps the rhythm steady. Her honest and thoughtful lyrics have touched many on her journey, and she's still growing and changing for the better. Her music is a mix of folk, rock and soul, but it just kinda happened that way, because she simply writes and sings what makes her happy. When it comes to singing and songwriting, Valencia likes to keep things simple, and that's working really well for her. She has received a number of songwriting awards, including the Academy of Gospel Music Association's Urban Gospel Song of the Year. The Making of Business Phenomenon Ali Brown! - Jul 12,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews one of the most successful female entrepreneurs of the 21st century, Ali Brown. Learn the secrets that can make YOU a success without leaving your living room. An unstinting faith in her own ability and destiny has helped Ali Brown become one of the most successful female entrepreneurs of her generation. As founder and CEO of Ali International, LLC, a company which recently qualified to be considered for the *Inc 500* list of fastest growing companies 2009, she has created a dynamic multimillion dollar enterprise that is devoted to empowering women around the world. Through the power of entrepreneurship Ali helps close to 40,000 members start and grow their own businesses. Ali’s entrepreneurial plans were hatched in the offices of a small New York City ad agency. She found herself frustrated at not being able to change and improve things, and her ideas fell on deaf ears. Then, in 1998 Ali made the decision that changed her life forever. She quit her job. “I finally realized that I should be an entrepreneur! I was working in a tiny company and was doing everything from talking to clients, to servicing accounts, to getting coffee for people, and fixing the fax machine. That was when I realized that I had the skills I needed to do this on my own.” Without a mentor or coach to guide her, Ali immersed herself in books and courses on marketing, success, and prosperity. Using a hand-me-down computer gifted by her younger brother, she harnessed the power of online marketing to build her business. It appealed to her because it was low-cost, had a broad reach, and she could work from home. | 7/11/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Lineage: What If The Universe Gave You A Gift? - Jul 07,2009 | Seeing is Believing. For the past 2000 years the Universe has asked mankind to believe in God without proof. Now there has been a policy change. Since the beginning of 2006, Nancy Burson has been allowed to show audiences in the US and Europe the highly sentient Light Beings she calls the Extra Celestials (ECs) that she originally met in a crop circle in 2004. Nancy's quirky yet poignant journey features the miraculous phenomena of glow-in-the-dark statuette dancing Mother Mary. She was a gift from Irish Avatar Derek O?Neill, whose car runs on love not gas and who magically creates rainbows and shape-shifts into other humans with ease. Read Lineage and discover the real reason why the Rays, or ECs are here for contact withmankind at this time. Much of what you read in these pages will challenge your views of reality and so much more. This information was given to Burson directly from the I Am Presence. Their love was the guiding force in writing this book, and now it is her offering of love to you. When you can see what Burson sees, you too will know what an amazing place the Universe is. Now is the time for all of us to access our own experience. The information included here is an opportunity for everyone to heal and explore our own personal relationship to the Divine. This is the time for each of us to choose that for ourselves, and when we do, we heal each other and our planet simultaneously. The front cover is a photo taken in photographer's garden January 2007. It is a twelve-second exposure: one of seven consecutive shots taken over a five-minute period in complete darkness. This face of an EC appeared for over one minute. | 7/6/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Michael Jackson: A Musical Tribute - Jul 06,2009 | Listeners of my show know I love music. I can honestly say I did not watch ONE DAY of his trial coverage because I knew it was bogus. Michael, I did not know you, but I felt your spirit through your music, your dancing...and for that I do love you as so many do around the world. My only solace is that you are in a better place. The Depression Cure: The 6-Step Program to Beat Depression without Drugs - Jun 27,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman and author of the book The Depression Cure: The 6-Step Program to Beat Depression without Drugs Stephen S. Ilardi, PhD. Most Americans work long hours, eat on the fly, and lead increasingly sedentary, isolated lives. Alongside this lifestyle, depression rates have skyrocketed: approximately 1 in 4 Americans will suffer from major depression at some point in their lives. Where have we gone wrong? Dr. Stephen Ilardi sheds light on our current predicament and reminds us: our bodies were never designed for the sleep-deprived, poorly nourished, frenzied pace of twenty-first century life. In fact, our genes have changed very little since the days of our hunter-gatherer ancestors and are still building, in effect, Stone Age bodies. Herein lies the key to breaking the cycle of depression. Inspired by the extraordinary resilience of aboriginal groups like the Kaluli of Papua New Guinea (who rarely suffer from depression), Dr. Ilardi prescribes an easy-to-follow, clinically proven program that harks back to what our bodies were originally made for—and need. Here you can find the road back to lasting health by integrating the following 6 elements into your life: an omega–3 rich diet; exercise; plenty of natural sunlight; ample sleep; social connections; and participation in meaningful tasks that leave little time for negative thoughts—all things that our ancestors had in abundance. Already, The Depression Cure program has delivered dramatic results, helping even those who have failed to respond to traditional medications. Interweaving the stories of many who have fought—and won—the battle against this debilitating illness, this groundbreaking book can illuminate the path to lifting the fog once and for all for you or a loved one. | 6/26/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Change Your Mind And Your Life Will Follow: 12 Simple Principles - Jun 26,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman when she interviews author Karen Casey about her book Change Your Mind And Your Life Will Follow: 12 Simple Principles. Veteran self-help author Casey's gentle advice is anchored in a strong spiritual commitment. Having given up alcohol and drugs in 1976, she developed many of the concepts she advocates through attending 12-step support groups. Casey firmly believes that the work of someone's life belongs only to that person and to God, and that we should thus each tend only our own garden. From this conviction flow several of her principles, such as refraining from judging others, recognizing that you cannot change friends or relatives, and learning to focus primarily on your life's journey rather than on the opinions and actions of others. Casey recommends quieting the mind by letting go of your ego and looking for the lesson in every experience and encounter, whether positive or negative. Although many of the insights and techniques are not new, Casey's voice is thoughtful and accessible. Readers with a belief in the power of God will be most amenable to her recommendations for a simpler, more rewarding life. | 6/25/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

No More Secrets - A Family Speaks About Depression, Anxiety and Attempted Suicide - Jun 24,2009 | The Gallaghers know what happy times look like - they lived in a great neighborhood, a comfortable home, they had a happy marriage, and four beautiful children. But when their family was ravaged by depression, they didn't know where to turn, or how to cope. Many lessons were learned the hard way. They have written a book as a family, to help others deal with difficult situations: NO MORE SECRETS A FAMILY SPEAKS ABOUT DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE is the title of the book which is a compelling narrative of a family shattered by attempted suicide. It tells of a family's struggle to renew John's interest in life. Back when life was grand, the Gallaghers appeared on the Oprah Show regarding Patricia's book RAISING HAPPY KIDS ON A REASONABLE BUDGET. Oprah said, "Let's go on a visit to their home." It looked so perfect back then, John Gallagher playing ball with his kids in the yard, kids doing their chores, a happy family mealtime. Now, nine years later, the Gallagher family has begun to tell their story, and have found healing. They want to help other families in difficult situations; whether it is a parent struggling with depression, addiction, alcoholism or a chronic illness, the ripple effect devastates each member of the family. Dr. Dan Gottlieb, host of a public radio show said, "I have been doing this show for 22 years and I cannot remember being so touched by a family's story." www.speakingaboutdepression.com | 6/23/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Are you realizing that the first half of your life is over and you’ve been so busy concentrating on building a career or raising a family, or both, it has suddenly dawned on you that you may have lost yourself in the process and that the dreams you had when you were younger were set aside for more immediate concerns? The book offers a collection of honest and inspiring stories delving into the lives of a community of mid-life trailblazers who wanted to make changes in their lives and found that as they reached inward for the strength to change, almost unanimously reached out to share their better self, their skills, their talents to make the world a better place. Learning & Behavioral Problems Begin In Your Grocery Cart! - Jun 16,2009 | Did you know that the brand of ice cream, cookie, and potato chip you select could have a direct effect on the behavior, health, and ability to learn for you or your children? Join us as we speak to author of the book Why Can't My Child Behave? Jane Hersey. In her book, Hersey discusses ADHD and the Feingold Diet. What is the Feingold Diet? Numerous studies show that certain synthetic food additives can have serious learning, behavior, and/or health effects for sensitive people. The Feingold Program (also known as the Feingold Diet) is a test to determine if certain foods or food additives are triggering particular symptoms. It is basically the way people used to eat before "hyperactivity" and "ADHD" became household words, and before asthma and chronic ear infections became so very common. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is the term currently used to describe a cluster of symptoms typical of the child (or adult) who has excessive activity or difficulty focusing. Some of the names that have been used in the past include: Minimal Brain Damage, Minimal Brain Dysfunction (MBD), Hyperkinesis, Learning Disability, H-LD (Hyperkinesis/Learning Disability), Hyperactivity, Attention Deficit Disorder, ADD With or Without Hyperactivity. In addition to ADHD, many children and adults also exhibit one or more other problems which may include: OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), Bi-polar Disorder, Depression, Tourette Syndrome (TS), and Developmental Delays. These people often have food or environmental allergies. Many have a history of one or more of these physical problems: ear infections, asthma, sinus problems, bedwetting, bowel disorders, headaches/migraines, stomachaches, skin disorders, sensory deficits (extreme sensitivity to noise, lights, touch), vision deficits (the left and right eyes do not work well together, sometimes nystagmus). | 6/15/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Historical Romance Author Anita L. Johnson AKA P.J. Dean - Jun 14,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman when she interviews author Anita Johnson aka P.J. Dean. You can vist her websites as www.diverseviews.vpweb.com www.fictionwise.com and www.newconceptspublishing.com/kindred.htm Born to a hard-working, single mother on a tight budget, who believed pursuing the things which make life fun were just as important as the necessities, A. Louise Johnson was exposed to fun things which would entertain her and enrich her life, not just clutter it up. Her mother believed fun did not have to cost much and sought out what Philly had to offer. Libraries, museums, free city-sponsored concerts, etc. She was also raised an only child in a household of adults, so she was a tad precocious. Their neighborhood, South Philly, was, and always has been, a mix of different cultures. She grew up hearing many languages and witnessing the customs of the immigrants who had settled there. As a child, she learned to observe people, developing an eye for detail and an ear for the unusual. This inquisitiveness led to her affinity for research and a desire to write. Her love of other places led to a semester in France and a B. A. in French Civilization, with a minor in Spanish. Her interest in history and her penchant for romance novels directed her to write her first historical romance, "FAITHFUL." It was named a 2005 Independent Book Awards Finalist in the Romance category. "KINDRED" was her next logical step after recalling a snippet of information her maternal grandmother had related to her about them possibly having American Indian ancestors. She decided to spin it into an historical romance and New Concepts Publishing decided it was good enough to add to their line. Anita, who uses the pseudonym, "P. J. Dean," lives in New Jersey with her very demanding cat, Bart | 6/13/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

How To Love With Gordon Livingston, M.D. - Jun 11,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman when she interviews International bestselling author Gordon Livingston, M.D. about his new book How To Love. Dr. Gordon Livingston’s books have resonated with readers as universally and deeply as earlier books by M. Scott Peck, Rollo May, and Erich Fromm. Now, Gordon Livingston—a physician of the human heart, a philosopher of human psychology—offers an urgently needed meditation on who best (and who best not) to love—and how best to love. Dr. Livingston’s primary focus in this new book is on helping us to recognize in ourselves and in others constellations of character traits and what those traits imply both with regard to compatibility and future conduct. As in his previous books, here are Dr. Livingston’s trademark gifts—an unerring sense of what is important, and what Elizabeth Edwards has characterized as “his unapologetic directness and his embracing compassion”—again deployed to provide readers everywhere with a much-needed alternative to the trial-and-error learning that makes wisdom such an expensive commodity. | 6/10/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Criminal Minds Star Kirsten Vangsness! - Jun 05,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman when she interviews one of the stars of CBS's hit drama series Criminal Minds, Kirsten Vangsness. Kirsten is one of the entertainment industry’s most charming performers, she plays the blonde, be-spectacled, brainiac, tech-kitten, “Penelope Garcia”. Originally, the role of “Garcia” was scripted as a one episode guest starring role but due to the overwhelming audience response to Vangsness – who last year was named one of the Top Ten “Scene Stealers by Entertainment Weekly – by the middle of the season, Vangsness was asked to join the show as a series regular: thereby giving “Garcia” free reign to hit on “Derek Morgan” (played by uber-hunk, Shemar Moore) to her imaginary heart’s content. Now in it's fourth season, CRIMINAL MINDS continues to soar in the ratings as every week (in the season three cliffhanger where “Garcia” was shot and almost died the show had some of it’s highest rating to date) as the team of FBI specialists looks for the bad guy while “Garcia” takes care of the computer needs and the comedy relief that this dark, suspenseful show has come to rely on. | 6/4/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Under Their Thumb: How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up with the Rolling Stones - Jun 04,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman when she interviews author Bill German who wrote Under Their Thumb: How a Nice Boy from Brooklyn Got Mixed Up with the Rolling Stones (and Lived to Tell About It.) For 17 years, German recorded the comings and goings of the Rolling Stones in his fanzine Beggars Banquet; in this surprising memoir, German documents his relationship with the band. German's fandom with the Stones began when he was 12. When he heard songs like Bitch and Sweet Virginia, he was inexplicably hooked on the band's music, and he envied the DJs who got to play their music and the journalists who covered the band. By the time he was 16, German had decided to produce a newsletter devoted to his favorite group, printing the first 100 copies of Beggars Banquet on his Brooklyn high school's mimeograph machine in 1978. Although his classmates were unenthusiastic (they were more interested in disco and Saturday Night Fever than Exile on Main Street), the Stones and their management eventually became aware of German's efforts. By 1983, the Stones wanted to make Beggars Banquet the official fanzine of their fan club and stuffed the record sleeves of their new release, Undercover, with it. When the Stones' manager reneged on his promise of payment, German learned a hard business lesson and ended the arrangement, but he never lost his affection for the band. He chronicles his close relationships with Keith Richards and Ron Woods (with whom he coauthored a book) as well as his lukewarm relationship with Mick. Richards emerges from German's memoir as a sweet and loving guy, while Jagger appears an arrogant prima donna who has little time for his band mates or his family. | 6/3/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Confessions of A Codependent - May 22,2009 | Many listeners of this show know the host Jacqueline Williams-Foreman is an author of several romance novels, but she has written non-fiction as well. Her book Confesions of A Codependent: How To Identify And Eliminate Unhealthy Relationshps is her first non-fiction book. After enduring more than her share of codependent relationships, author Jacqueline Williams (her maiden name) knew she needed to change her behavior patterns. Through a great deal of soul-searching, therapy, and prayer, Williams came to understand her codependency and how to eradicate it from her relationships. Written especially for women, Confessions of a Codependent: How to Identify and Eliminate Unhealthy Relationships defines codependent relationships, explains why they are so self-destructive, and explores why these relationships can at times lead to physical violence. Confessions of a Codependent shares other women’s stories of codependent, abusive, and/or dysfunctional relationships, as well as the ways these women were able to leave them and move on to healthier partnerships. Confessions of a Codependent also includes practical advice on how to recognize signs that your relationship may be heading toward emotional and/or physical abuse, how to move away from self-defeating and self-destructive behaviors, and resources that you can use to escape a codependent relationship. If you’re struggling in your current relationship and feel trapped by codependency, break the cycle with Confessions of a Codependent! | 5/22/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Mother-Daughter Wisdom: Understanding the Crucial Link Between Mothers, Daughters, and Health - May 20,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she speaks to Dr. Christiane Northrup M.D. about her book Mother-Daughter Wisdom: Understanding the Crucial Link Between Mothers, Daughters, and Health . It's a rare book that delivers so completely on such a broad promise. Mother-Daughter Wisdom is written to connect the dots between a number of separate parts: logical and emotional morality, physical and mental health, friends and family, and in an overarching sense, the relationship between being a woman's daughter and raising a daughter of your own. Because of the scope of information presented, it can be tricky to pick up the book and look for quick guidance on a particular topic such as adolescent weight issues or childhood asthma; more use, and more pleasure, will be found if you add it to your permanent reference shelf to look through in stages. Author Dr. Christiane Northup (Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom) seamlessly blends personal stories with clear research in a way that creates a compelling read from start to finish, even if the specific topic isn't necessarily one that concerns you. Information is a welcome mix of old school medical advice and new school nutrition and stress relief. In Northup's world, whole foods and loving communication can play just as important roles as antibiotics. The book is categorized somewhat loosely by age, beginning with pregnancy and labor, and continuing through infancy, childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. Each section is quite specifically tuned to relating to daughters: Mothers of sons will get some use out of sections on breastfeeding, vaccinations and the like, but emotional concerns and physical recommendations are tailor-made for women and girls, right down to the resource guide that ends the book. By itself, that resource guide is an excellent starting point for further reading, both online and in print. When added to the whole, it is just one more reason you'll reach for the book on a regular basis. | 5/20/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

From Hormone Hell To Hormone Well - May 20,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman and Dr. C.W. Randolph, Jr., M.D. as they discuss his book From Hormone Hell to Hormone Well. For the past several decades, the traditional medical community has by and large ignored, misdiagnosed, and mistreated millions of women and men suffering from symptoms of hormone imbalance such as weight gain, low sex drive, fatigue, hot flashes, foggy thinking and depression. Synthetic hormone replacement therapy (HRT), the most common choice for treatment, has been clinically proven to be dangerous. Still, doctors continue to prescribe HRT and put the health – and even the lives – of millions of patients at risk. In this new, expanded edition of their successful book From Hormone Hell to Hormone Well, C.W. Randolph, Jr., M.D. and Genie James team up to challenge the pharmaceutical industry's ongoing promotion of HRT as well as the physicians this industry has brainwashed. A world-renowned expert and co-founder of The Natural Hormone Institute of America, Dr. Randolph has for more than a decade used bio-identical hormone replacement therapies (BHRT) to safely and effectively treat thousands of women and men for decades. | 5/19/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

The large number of preventable deaths in hospitals nationwide has been highly publicized. Critical Conditions: The Essential Hospital Guide To Get Your Loved One Out Alive by Martine Ehrenclou, MA, is a new book about how to be a proactive advocate for your hospitalized loved one in order to prevent medical error, medication mistakes, fatal falls and the spread of hospital-acquired infectious diseases. Critical Conditions is a step-by-step guide based on over 150 interviews with registered nurses, physicians and hospital staff, Ms. Ehrenclou's own experiences with hospitalized family members and hundreds of hours of research. A reported quarter of a million deaths in hospitals nationwide were found to be preventable (The Fifth Annual Health Grades Patient Safety in American Hospitals Study, 2008). If someone has a parent, spouse, sibling or child in the hospital, they must get actively involved in the patient's care to monitor and oversee the medical care that is provided. Hospitalized patients are recovering either from an injury, illness or disease and cannot do this for themselves. Someone, a family member or good friend, must act as a sentinel, a watchdog, to avert preventable, fatal errors. You will learn how to: Prevent deadly medical errors, medication mistakes, infectious diseases. Reach doctors when you need them every time. Navigate and manage the hospital system with confidence. Interact with doctors and nurses effectively. Maximize care for the patient. Comfort the patient. What to do if you live out of town. When "I Do" Becomes "I Don't": Practical Steps for Healing During Separation & Divorce - Apr 21,2009 | Join Jacqueline Foreman as she speaks with Laura Petherbridge author of When "I Do" Becomes "I Don't": Practical Steps for Healing During Separation & Divorce. When Laura Petherbridge realized her marriage was ending, she asked the gut-wrenching question,"What do I do now?" Now Laura offers practical answers about divorce that she has found through her own experience and through two decades of caring for those grieving the loss of a marriage. In the midst of pain and confusion, you might also be asking questions such as these: How do I find where I belong when I no longer know my identity? If my spouse asks for forgiveness, should I go back? If I get an attorney, will my spouse think I'm giving up on our marriage forever? How do I figure out a budget on my own? What should I do when others criticize my ex-spouse in front of my kids? How do I reenter the workplace after years of staying home? How will I know when it's a good time to date again? Does God still care about me? Will I ever be happy again? With straightforward, sensitive answers to these questions and others, Petherbridge offers real-life help, spiritual insights, and new hope for the future. | 4/21/09 | Free | View In iTunes |

Hey,not bad!
To tell you the truth,I didn't really think this show would be all that great. But since I really love interviews, particularly with writers and serious thinkers in the "mental health" field ,I decided to take a listen.I'm so glad I did. While many of the guests clearly have their theoretical and "political" biases- the show itself is an "open-forum",to quote the host.A bit of a hidden gem for anyone struggling with or needing guidance for health issues;emotional/mental ones in particular. The host seems to be a very sweet person who's been through alot herself,so it's easy to identify with and feel a sort of kinship with Jacqueline (Foreman).Though I've only recently discovered the show,I would say the only thing I would perhaps tone down is Jacqueline's tendancy to fixate (justifiably,to be sure.) on her experiences of being treated by a doctor who was negligent to a truly astounding degree :the unbelievable amounts of multible drugs and the quantities in which they were prescribed seems far more indicative of a "sick" mind than this poor woman, who, bless her heart, was going through the unimaginable,(but NATURAL) process of grieving over the loss of her dear son. Well, that being said, she still manages to remain upbeat, and helps the listener feel like they're taking part in more of a casual conversation rather than listening to an interview show.I would definitely recommend this show to anyone with an interest in psychology.
UUUUGGGGHHHH!
The only episode I wanted to listen to is the interview with Kirsten Vangsness. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to listen to Kirsten BUT...Jacqueline, the interview should not be all about you but all about the person you've invited and who graciously accepted the invite. Listening to the rambling about the host was a total auditory beating. Poor Kirsten! I felt so bad that she was subjected to that! Kirsten gets points for being able to tolerate the nonsense!
Too much
I downloaded the one with Kirsten Vangsness. I don't know how she was able to sit through this "interview." The host talked the whole time about herself and other random stuff. I was looking for an interview, not a one sided conversation with some random gal.
